Has anyone had their bike tuned at Black Hills H-D:
« on: July 28, 2007, 02:37:56 PM »

Just wondering if anyone has had Black Hills H-D dyno and tune their bike with the SERT. Looking for a good tuner in either Denver CO or Soth Dakota or Wyoming if anyone can recommend one.

Theozz,

One of the best tuners in the business is based in South Dakota.  His name is Speed Hanson - Google "Speed's Performance" and I am sure you will find information about him and his business... I have had Speed tune several of my bikes with fantastic results...:2vrolijk_21:

Sadunbar,

Wayne "speed" hanson is a good guy and does do a great job tuning.   He is setup across the street each year from Iron Horse here in Ormond each bike event.

He also sells a variety of products like his version of the horsepower inc throttle body and other perfomance items.

I live in the Black Hills.  I bought my '06 USE from Black Hills HD.  I had Rush mufflers w/2" baffles- (which the people from Hal's HD in Wisconsin said dynoed with the best numbers short of 2-1 exhaust)  Doherty PowerPacc a/c and SERT.  Black Hills HD tuned it. and I feel they did a good job.  The service manager, Doug Smith, tuned mine.  I'm getting a little nervous about parting with my '06 and getting my '08 with all the problems people have been having though!  -Sounds like a crap shoot!!!  :nervous: -Retail& Steve

Steve G,

Can't say I am on the bandwagon to tell you to upgrade, just the opposite based on my experience with the 110 motor thus far.  If you were asking me I would be telling you to take your well tuned melon and ride away HAPPILY EVER AFTER.

Sorry hate to darken your enthusiasm, but the track record for those that ride their bikes has been utterly lousy.

Hind sight for me would have been to get another 04/05.

Best of luck with whatever you decide to do.

Hopefully with as many problems that I have been reading about, the MoCo will have done something about addressing the problems with the 110s for the '08 model year.  (yeah, right!)  My watermelon did run good, and my original plan was to add the S&S 6 sp. and do a gear drive cam upgrade.  Oh well, I just hope that if I have problems, I can find a tuner who can get me taken care of without voiding my warranty!  I just keep reading what people are doing on this site to correct their problems.  I'm very glad there are knowledgable people here who are willing to share their experience.  -Retail& Steve

Steve:

I had a good freind that worked for BH H-D and he was telling me that they had a new guy named Chris(I think that does there dyno work). I will have to get ahold of my buddy and see if he's any good at tuning the SERT. Black Hills is having quite a shakeup in the service shop and hope they have some decent help left after it's all done.

J&L in Siouxfalls,S.D. did mine. I realize it's ont he otehr end of the state?
Not sure who the wrench was. I'm happy with it. Runs a heck of a lot smoother and a nice noticeable increase in power.

I had installed Rinehardt slip ons, AC and SERT.

I used to live in Sioux Falls. I bought 11 new bikes from J&L.  I love living in the Black Hills, but I gotta tell ya, J&L is the superior dealer.  Yogi is the head service writer, he is Jim and Lonnie's younger brother.  (where they get the J&L from).  Yogi was with them from about the beginning when they started in 1975.  He is an awesome mechanic.  He doesn't brag at all, so if you tell him you heard some nice things about him, he'd just get embarrassed.  Yogi's the head service guy now, so he may not be the one who does the actual tuning- although I'm not sure about this- but make sure and talk to him and tell him you want the best guy to tune your bike.  I know you'll be taken care of.
I bought my last bike, the '06 USE from Black Hills HD, and have a new one that's supposed to be in during the Sturgis Rally.  You're right, Chris is the one who is the real "motor head".  I'd try to get him to tune your motor.  -Steve
