Heavy Breather
« on: July 28, 2007, 06:36:29 PM »

I'm interested in hearing of anyone's experience with Harley's Heavy Breather air intake/filter. Please, no replies from those using other intake systems, I'm interested in learning about the Heavy Breather only. Thanks!

Wow! I would have thought a little increase. It's a bitchin' looking filter.

Yeah, I thought so too.  I've been looking at it.  It would cure the vibration noise I currently have with my stock air cleaner cover.  I really like my stock cover, but if I could find some green filter oil, I'd be tempted to go with the Heavy Breather........if I could at least maintain my current performance characteristics.

Harley claims an actual increase in torque, though they say nothing about HP. I wonder if the reason Skippy had negative effects on the dyno has to do with the intake needing the bike in motion in order to work...ram air effect. I'm going to get one, and like most other gimmicks, any increase in power will be mostly imagined.  But that will work for me. Ha!

The turner said he had this happen before mine he thinks it makes to much turblance... I took off the stock cover installed the K&N filter and the HD air cleaner insert p#29263-04 this leaves the edges or sides of the filter exposed look good and works well...watch out for rideing in the rain...

I have run mine for a couple months now and did not notice any gain or loss of power.  I keep the sock on mine all the time as well.  I just use a large ziploc bag with a rubberband and place it around it while washing.

You want a killer breather, use the S&S Single Bore Tuned Induction Runner System! That's all I've got to say about that!. As Hubbard says, "There endeth the lesson!"

Howie,
I was going to suggest that too but he is NOT INTERESTED...only interested in the HD heavy breather.

Ha!  It's not that I'm not interested about other systems, it's just that I can read about them in other threads. :D

One thing I do not like visually about the Heavy Breather for '07 and earlier is the black back plate that sticks out and blocks some of the view of the cylinders. This plate is not present on the '08 style that is fitted to the CVO Springer.
