Both sides are the same, what really sucks is this is the "inner" fairing.

Hey, I put this tank trim on my bike and when the wheel is hard over it hit the lower part of the inner fairing.

That part is known for that Duane.  When installed you need to make sure it is tucked back against the tank as firmly as it can be.  Then tighten that top bolt down.  If it's snugged all the way against the tank's insulating rubber piece it won't hit the inner fairing.  Leave it forward much at all and it can.

Don, the trim only had a paper thickness between the tank and the trim, as far back as can be. Judging by the deflection of the fairing, it could be back another 1/8" and it would probably still hit.
Didn't realize when it happened, cause I keep the bike in the garage with the wheel straight.

It's an HD part that can bump there.  Got to be real careful with the install.  The directions don't mention that either  .

That really sucks Duane.  Have seen several that were really close.  But always could be made to clear if the time piece was tucked right against the tank.  Your fairing mountings must be leaning as far as they can the wrong direction too.

Duane, FWIW give this a shot.  When those time parts were first released Harley actually replaced a couple of fairings (for free) because of this.  I don't remember if there was actually a service letter on it or if it was just a couple of very friendly dealerships.  But it's at least worth asking your service manager about.  Everything to gain and nothing to lose by asking.

Good idea Don, I'll give it a try, not very optimistic though, with the warranty issues I've had so far. What do you mean by time part, are there different variations due to build date?

Do you know anyone that actually had a fairing replaced?

Duane, "time parts" was an editorial error (brain fart).  Should have just been "parts."  My fingers have a mind of their own sometimes apparently.

There was discussion here on the site of a couple of inners that were replaced because of this.  I remember the discussion even taking the odd turn that a dealer had told an owner that this part wasn't intended for bikes with painted inners, but that black was ok (I guess our paint is thicker  :huepfenlol2: ).

I also knew a guy in Tulsa working with Route 66 Harley who had had this installed then got the gouges.  The last I heard Route 66 was getting him a new inner.  I've not seen that since it was still a work in progress so can't confirm there was actually any follow through though.

Will try some variations in the search tool here to see if the old thread I'm thinking of can be found.  That's a deep well anymore though.  So wish me luck.

Yes you are, and after reading the thread I looked this up on the HD site

66345-04

IN-STORE PURCHASE ONLY Contact dealer for pricing and availability.

Fits '99-'07 Electra Glide® models (except FLHTCSE, FLHTCSE2, FLHTCUSE or models equipped with Color-Matched Inner Fairing).

Is it because the chrome trim on the forks push the fairing to the rear a bit?
Since there is a disclaimer it looks like I'm stuck with a double blemish  :-\
