I have always tried to do things myself so I don't know the cost.  But if the dealer DOES EVERYTHING that is required in a 10K service, it is not out of line.  If they skip all the hard stuff and just do the 3 fluid change, it is too much.  They are supposed to check and adjust if necessary the steering neck bearings.  This alone could take several hours.  Read down the 10K service list and ask them if they actually do each one.   Hope this helps.

Seems reasonable our dealer charges $600 but they do the full service.  Alll criticial fasteners, changes fluids, visualy which of bike.  The steering head bearing can be adjusted very quickly by an experenced mechanic without removing the outer fairing.

What is the hourly labor rate at the shop you are taking it to? If they are using the flat-rate manual for the amount of hours it takes to do the job then a major part of that cost is going to be for four to five hours of labor.

The 1,000 mile cost  $308.43; the 5,000 mile cost $329.67; and the 10,000 mile cost $501.27. The Shop rate is 88.00 per hour. I have a three year maintenence plan from the dealer which cost me $2,000.00 and still have 2 plus years left on it.

Service departments really suck, I only take mine to them for warranty work. It does not hurt your warranty to do it yourself or have your local Non Dealer repair shop do it. In the back of your owners manual it says what is suppose to be done for 10000 check. Take it to the shop and show the mechanic what needs to be done and get a quote. It will come out to less that half what the dealer will charge. The money left over can be used for more Chrome or HP          :orange:

I would imagine they have it a set rate as most do, but when you get your invoice it will be broken down into parts/labor to come to that total.

Labor $75/hr X 5hrs = $375
Parts (Fluid/Gaskets/Etc) = $125
Total = $500

My dealer refuses to install my fluids of choice...says the owner won't let them do it.  Rather than get in a wizzing contest with them over the whole thing, I just tell them not to change the fluids and do it myself.  In fact, I just do it all myself now and save myself both the money and the heartburn.
