What's it worth?
« on: August 01, 2007, 11:01:23 AM »

I am thinking about going to a 124 inch engine in my CUSE2. So what do you think my stock 110 ci engine is worth, with about 1500 miles?

Well considering a 110 upgrade kit (which includes mufflers to make it street legal), goes for about $2500 and doesn't include the bottom end, I would venture to guess you could ask at least $2500-$3000 for it.  JMHO.

Guys

What it's worth and what someone will give for it are two different things.

I'm the one wrong here. Mr. Hog wild didn't ask what someone would give for it he asked what we thought it was worth.
Unless someone else steps up or he decides my offer is to low then my bid stands!

I think my 03's are worth around 18k to 19k each but will I get that? Nope, especially since they are not for sell!

Yep,
I agree that what it is worth and what a buyer will pay are two different things.
I am just wondering if it would be better to start with a new billet engine or use my cases and just buy the top end stuff and crank. I hate the black cases and would have to polish mine if I did that.
Then the idiot at the polisher place would trash my cases.
Hell I don't know??

Chip,
Just giving the man what he asked for.  What I thought it was worth, not what you'd be willing to give for it.  Only you know what you'd be willing to give for it.  Now it boils down to what he's willing to accept for it.

I think with the current stink about reliability issues on the 110"s you'd probably be lucky to get a grand or two.    or.... maybe the fact that's it's a 110 will stand in your favor and the price would rise greatly!   HOWEVER,   I wouldn't build up a 124 on that set of cases for the same reason.  If I were going that route, it would show up in a wooden crate and be pretty much ready in intake and exhaust. (proven platform)

So, to answer your question, I would go the pre-arranged buyer or e-bay route, and just eat the loss to get the bigger motor.

OR

You could always buy a gold-wing.  don't those things have a big motor?      just jokin'.....

Red, I know!

That's why I said I'm the one wrong here.
But there is a grand waiting if he wants to do a deal.

H/W my post wasn't to hurt your feelings, just an attempt to express what I would give for a 110 A motor with 1500 miles.
If you can get 5K then sell it and we will still be buds, but you have to buy the beer!
Good luck on what you decide!

If you build the existing motor, just pull it, send all the parts to Sumax and have them done in whatever color you want, or polished out, then build the motor back the right way.  Probably be just as cheap to get the motor of your choice in a crate though, unless you want to maintain the stock badges on the motor and fool everybody... ;)

When I do mine, it's just going to say 103 on everything.....

that brings back memories from the 60's when my brother bought a 69 Chevy Nova SS 396.  He took all the SS badges off and replaces those sidelight 396 badges with 307 ones.  The original sleeper car.   :P
