Headlight Modulators/Taillight Modulators???
« on: August 06, 2007, 02:30:30 PM »

Sorry if this is a redundant topic.  I did search and only came up with one thread and the last post on it was May '06.

I just saw my first bike with headlight modulation active and it did get my attention as I was driving to work in the opposite freeway lanes.

As has been stated, they are are now legal in all 50 states.

How many of you are using some type of headlight modulation?

How many of you are using some type of brake light modulation?

On my old '76 FLH I converted all turn signals to dual elements and have them all on all the time as running lights.  I don't have the outer markers active with the brake light though.

I've seen quite few modulating brake lights and they also get me attention very quickly.

On my new '08 SERK, when it comes in, I plan to do something in front and the rear with modulators.

Can anyone shed any wisdom on type, setup, and pros/cons???

I again apologize if this has been beat to death elswhere.

I do not like the modulating head lights....when I first see them I think it is an emergency vehicle.  They do make the bike more visible.

My two sense.

They do definetly make your bike more visible... and that's a good thing.  Motorcycles were originally mandated to run headlights to make them more visible in traffic.  Now, with cars running Daytime Running Lights, we blend in with traffic again.  I ran both a headlight and brakelight  modulator on a previous bike and they worked very well.  Running in the left lane people will actually move over, and it's all legal.  Pretty cool !!

My rear turn and brake lights are set up together and burn all the time.  I did finally see a bike with the headlight modulator recently and it did catch my attention.  It's something I'd like to know more about.  If anyone has info, please post.

I'm not sure the headlight modulator would make that big a difference on an e-glide with the spots (three tightly spaced lights really stand out), but they sure do help on bikes with a single small headlight.  Anything that helps to keep people from saying "but officer, I didn't see him" is a good idea IMHO.

Here is the one I use.  http://www.kisantech.com/index.php  Model P115W-S  All of 5 minutes to install.  I ran the daylight sensor up the left side with the clutch cable and you do not know it is there unless you know about it. It has made a difference with getting noticed.

I also carry a copy of this just in case the law enforcement people are not familiar with it.  http://www.webbikeworld.com/Motorcycle-technical-articles/Modulator-regs.htm

I have been running the modulator for 6 weeks and have not been stopped for it yet.

The Blue HID is a much better solution - I drove in front of you a few times during the post rally ride - you could be seen for miles and miles.  When I first saw a modulator in action I thought a Goldwing was trying to warn me of radar ahead!

I've printed out the website catalog and it looks very interesting.

I know I'll be doing the brake modulator and probably the headlight modulator as well.

Thanks for all the help and information.
