Trailer Hitch
« on: August 06, 2007, 03:08:19 PM »

Question to the folks that pull trailers with their bikes:  I am looking for a hitch to put on my 08 SEUC.  I think I want a vertical receiver-type hitch.  Does anyone know if a good option?  And, are their any bolt-on issues putting a hitch on a SEUC?

I run the bushtec hidden hitch; http://www.bushtec.com/flhhitch.html

Can hardly tell it's there w/ the ball removed.

Bushtechs are great hitches.  You can put one on in about 2hrs they are pretty easy.  When wiring us bushtech isolation system to prevent overloading the electrical system.

The bushtech with the ball removed you cann't even tell it has a hitch.  The hitch doc is very noticeable,  works nice just not as clean looking when the trailer isn't attached. JOMO

I bought mine used off e-bay. Prolly best to call Bushtec direct for prices. It's a little involved to install, just for the fact you have to remove damn near everything on the rear end, about a 3 beer job!

Thanks Bungy!

A three  :drink: :drink: :drink: my favorite kind.  When I get closer to needing a hitch I will call Bushtec and will post the cost.

Maybe a little late - but for those that are thinking about trailer hitches - most software at dealerships on TALON report directly to HD. Once your newly warrantied bike is recorded with a trailer hitch your warranty is null and void on mostly all driveline components and wiring.
This also relates to HP items added to your bike. Dealerships vary with how they handle this internally so this may vary to who you do business with.
Dealerships do not determine warranty - HD does - Your local dealership may have coop $'s for those valued customers they wish to help @meaning those that continually do business with them.

How does this relate to extended warranty's? Do the carriers for those policy's have access to this information?

Gary, to best of my knowledge they do not.  On my '99 Ultra I had some engine problems which required extended warranty to send rep by to inspect.  Dealer advised me they wanted to remove hitch "just in case."  Did so and no problem.

Has anyone checked out MCHITCH? http://www.mchitch.com/

It looks a lot like someone took the bushtec, coppied it and they are now selling it for $155 - $165.

We are toying with the idea of a trailer and I am still educating myself, but this looks interesting...  :-\

Unless I read it wrong you also need to buy the wiring Harness . the Busthtec hitch includes that. so it would still be the close to the same price.

Do not hook up your trailer to your bike without the Isolator!!!!

MOOT POINT!!!

With all the aftermarket engine stuff and and general monkey around an owner does with his HD - it's no wonder the moco disallows a lot of general warranty work :)

I've had a tralier hitch on all my bikes for over 10 years and have never had any problem with getting any thing covered under warranty That includes 2 HD's

If it was the case All auto dealers would void any car or trunk with a hitch that was not Factory installed with a towwing package - So I call Bull $hit on that - Put your hitch on you've already ripped off the stock pipes and removed the O2 Senors (example) and god know what else.
