Smart Alarm Question
« on: August 08, 2007, 01:42:44 PM »

 >:(
Can anyone tell me how in blue thunder one put's this overly smart alarm system in 'service mode' ?
I'm trying to simply install a pigtail on my battery's terminals (to use with a small DC air pump, etc.) and that dam^ thing keeps going off if I try to remove the terminal screws.
Owners manual says to remove the Maxi Fuse --- but guess what? THAT triggers the dam^ thing also!!
The Touring Service manual (which I was stupid enough to buy) doesn't say ANYTHING about the alarm system other than that there is a 'service mode'   ---- I guess that's in an entirely different $60.00 to $100.00 manual.
Man, I'll tell ya, I'm pretty much out of 'calm' wrt this whole Harley-Friggin'-Davidson owner experience.

I'm back and much calmer now.
Here's what I figured out. Don't know if it's service mode or not, but at least it shut the alarm off and allowed me to do what needed doing.
Turn ignition switch to start position and THEN pull the Maxi Fuse.
Hope it helps someone else along the way.

I just turned the switch to the on position and did what I had to do to connect the wiring for my fairing.
didn't seem to hurt anything leaving it in the on position while I worked.

Did you guys have the fob in your pocket, or nearby, when you tried unhooking the battery?

TC;

Yeah, I had the fob in my pocket -- don't tell me that's why it was alarming?

I did that when I installed the battery tender wires.  Bulletin: the alarm is very loud when one is leaned over the battery with the seat off.  :o :o :o  The procedure to put it in service mode is in the regular owners manual I found out.

Gecko;

I did look through the regular owner's manual --- must have missed it. I'll check again.
Thanx.
