My wife was following me yesterday on her 2003 Road King Classic, we were on Interstate 70 heading towards Baltimore.....I was on my 2007 SEUC and a great song just came on the radio, went up over an incline, checked my mirrors, no wife!!!! I pulled over and waited, no wife!!!!
I turned around through the medium and headed back west, there she sat on the side of the road. A couple of guys and gals on bikes had stopped to offer assistance. The rubber fuel line that connects the gas tank peacock to the fuel injection port had come off. At 70 miles an hour it began spilling gas all over the engine and her left leg. She pulled over right away and gas continued to spill all over the hot engine. Started to smoke, but thank God, no fire. One of the guys that stopped figured it out right away and put the hose back on the fitting to stop the leak. When I finally got turned around, I talked to the guy and he explained what had happened. The hose would not stay on, with any pressure at all it would pull off and start spilling gas. I had a plastic tie wrap in my tool kit and that did the trick. We limped it back to a HD Dealership 20 miles away. They did not have the part, but ordered it.
Could have been a disaster if the bike caught fire at 70 miles an hour.....check your fuel lines as a regular pre-ride check, I know I will!!!!! And a big THANKS for the folks that stopped to help!!!!
