While I have an 04', I was told that would be the case.

Of course that is one mechanics opinion, the mechanic not being me.

I was told that the air cleaner is a "Screamin Eagle" part and did not needed to be changed,  But then I read some where in one of our threads here that they are different and will make a change.  Because the ones that come with your bike have to meet epa, and the one you would get aftermarket from the MOCO would not and harley marks those with the racing flags in their catalogs.  Hopefully some one else will make more sense of this and give us a more complete or technical answer than what I've heard and read.

The replacement S/E A/C has no compartmentalized backing plate and cover. As air is sucked into the engine it makes noise. The EPA requirement is to reduce the noise, hence the compartment and the airflow restriction. The filter element in the SEEG is less restrictive than the Harley part. My recommendation is to get some air in the motor. Forget about the rest.

2uece,

Just like PCC said, you should always install a breather kit when changing to a hp pipe.

I think that you will want to make certain that you get the one with the increase on the rev-limit. Other than that, you should be quite pleased with the performance increase.

the pc usb lets you raise the rev limit.
however, it would be wise to get the reflash, just in case your pc ever craps out.

2uece,
The reflash is the ECM.  It has a rev-limiter program in it as well as controls your air/fuel mixture.  A base line computer program for your bike.  A reflash changes the air/fuel mixture to a different setting that accomodates more air in (K&N air filter) and more air out(free flowing exhaust) of your bike while balancing the fuel mixture with it.  In addition you will benefit by getting your rev-limit raised by a few hundred RPM.

The PC (Power Commander) is a unit that plugs inline with the existing ECM and remaps ignition and fuel instructions for the ECM.  The way it physically mounts (at least on the Glides) it can be very quickly removed and the stock ECM plugged back in normally in case the Power Commander should fail.

Should that happen, however, your stock map would not be at all close to the changes required for the various common upgrades many of us do.  So having the Stage I ECM upgrade done is simply a little extra insurance policy to have in place.  It's not "necessary" and will never be beneficial at all unless the Power Commander fails.  Like any other part on the bike though, someday it might.  So the remap is a "just in case" kind of thing for that circumstance.

OK let me try and understand this a bit more.  So when you reflash the ECM you're programing it with the same info. the PC has and if the PC ever craps out you can plug the ECM back on till you replace or fix the PC.  Now if it has the same info. why get the PC in the first place.   Sorry if you explained this already and I'm just not getting it.  This will be my first fuel inj. bike so I'm trying to understand all of this.  Let's Roll

Okay Lets_Roll,
When you reflash your ECM, you are giving the computer fixed parameters.  When you install a Power Commander or a Race Tuner, you have adjustment or control outside of a fixed set of parameters.  The thought of getting the reflash comes from several thoughts.  First, is an insurance that if the pc ever dies malfunctions or does not work, you will have a much closer air/fuelmixture and spark that you would neeed to operate the bike rather than the stock setting that would be completely wrong for increased breathing that you would get from free flowing exhaust and the K&N air filter.  This could mean that you would be able to get the bike to a place where you could perform repairs or replacement of that PC and not damage the internals of the motor.
