Not in the Homeland of the MoCo :nixweiss:

That must be why we have to pay an extra $10,000 at the start point then Rog.

I was going to bring that up and thought better of it.

That is how the MoCo does math, they have you pay in British Pounds or Euro and forget to make the necessary sdjustments to the price for the strength of the foreign currency.

Not a bad job if you can get it.

I agree with Chief.

I am taking my bike in to the dealer for the 1K, but only because it is FREE.

There is nothing hard about doing the service work yourself.  You will become more familiar with your bike and YOU will be more likely to spot other potential problems and find things that you will need to monitor over time.  Get yourself a service manual for your bike and dig in.

The $price$ the dealers charge is ridicules!

BINGO!!!!
Rhino

All of the above is true, however, were it to come down to a "judgement" call or "goodwill claim" servicing with a dealer is "always" considered.

If you haven't done any service with a dealer the chance of the MoCo or a dealer making the "judgement" in the customer's favor is most likely "zero".  I look at the 1,000 mile service as cheap insurance for a problem down the road that may require the dealer to back me.

There is no better advocate than a "good dealer".  We have seen all too many times here where members have had nothing but trouble from a dealer that has no concern in assisting the member to get a warranty issue pushed through.

IMHO, a bone thrown the dealer's way from time to time is a cheap investment in a good dealer relationship.

Federal law on warranty repairs only requires that you show proof that you have followed the manufacturers suggest maintenance schedule.  It does not state that you have to have your vehicle serviced by the dealership to satisfy the requirement.  All you have to have for proof is receipts for parts and supplies, if you do it yourself, and the service manual to show the warranty dealership that you performed the maintenance in accordance with their, the MoCo's, schedule.  Or you can have an indie to it and show the receipt for all the work he/she did to your ride.  They (the dealership) cannot tell you that you have to have your service done by the dealership in order to keep your warranty intact.

Red Devil has hit it right on.  It's the Magnuson Moss Warranty Act and if you guys want to do a search.......there are several lengthy threads on this subject.

IMHO, nothing is Free in the Harley World

More than likely the guys getting the 1k service for Free paid for it when they purchased their scoots
As the dealer just builds the price of 1k service into the setup charge or whatEver they call it
Some dealers give away t-shirts, bty tenders, wall plaques etc
Do you think most of the dealers are dropping their margins?  :nixweiss:      I don't think so
Most dealers have the mind set Pay Me Now or Pay Me Later....IMHO
