JDO,
What are your thoughts on only using the holes that do line up to mount them w/o drilling the additional hole?  Think they'd work and be stable?
I have them on mine using only the three mounting holes.  They work great.
Careful they don't blow an angry bee up your sleeve though... :o
After he has made it through the vented wing, he's been bounced around a bit and trust me when I say, "HE WONT BE HAPPY".

WELL AS FAR AS 3 HOLES THE STOCK WINGS LEFT LIL MARKS ON PAINT AND I WAS WORRIED IF ONLY USED 3 HOLES ON THE 08 WINGS THEY WOULD LEAVE WORSE MARKS.I WAS ALWAYS TOLD BY MY DAD WHEN YOU MAKE SOMETHING,OR SOMETHING WORK THAT ISN'T SUPPOSED TO MAKE IT LOOK LIKE FACTORY OR CUSTOM LIKE IT REALLY BELONGS THERE. Fitted them to my bike this weekend.  I was going to drill the 4th hole, but it looked like being way too close to the lower edge of the fairing.  Also, by just using the three stock holes, the original ones can always go back on!  ;)

They are fine with just the 3 mounting bolts - no problem at all, but I wanted them to look as if they were mounted with all four screws (I can't stand empty screw holes!  So I dremelled (Have Dremel - am dangerous!) the end off the 4th screw - left around 3/16" after the head - then put some tape over the inside of the hole. Half filled the hole with epoxy, pushed the shortened screw in, and let it set, then removed the tape.  Bingo - you'd never know I just used the three fixings!  8)

Jim, will there be enough flex or vibration at the bottom of this thing that it'll rub on the painted parts next to it?

No, no danger at all.  The screwhole that's not there on pre-08 bikes is right at the outside of the fairing.  The three existing ones hold it steady as a rock, and it will no more rub than the originals! :-)

That's good to know.  Is the universal adjustment solid; feeling like it will stay wherever you leave it?

My first set of vents were a name I've suddenly forgot other than the HD/Kuryakyn parts.  They worked ok.  But died when a bird suicided itself against the right one.  The replacements are the current HD that preceded these new 08 parts.  Nice to know there will be options if there is another bird strike.

No question - it will stay wherever you place it come hell or high water.  :)

Good deal.  Though I couldn't mount the things without doing the same masquerade you did.  The empty bolt hole would drive me nuts.

Hey Fired00d, there might be something worth trying to continue the 05-06-07 trend on the red bike up through 2008 after all :2vrolijk_21: .

JDO,

Nice installation. I have an 07 and was trying to figure out if the three hole would work.

What did you use for the angled spacer?

Just be sure to tell the dealer to avoid having the mechanic take his vise grips to that "stubborn" screw! (assuming they needed to remove it for some kind of work)  :smash:
Great idea!
