Turn Signal Despair
« on: August 22, 2007, 10:12:07 PM »

The bullet turn signals are a huge disappointment!

1.  They hold water, i.e. even water mist from washing will fill them up (even with coin slot on bottom).  The rubber gasket is deep inside the housing to keep water away from the socket; I think it should be in the front...  Water will ingress through the hole for the wiring as well.
2.  Plastic reflector chrome is bubbling and discolored from the heat of the bulb (yes, factory bulbs).

Is there an easy way to replace the plastic chrome reflector inside without a major re-wire?  Looked in the Service Manual and it appears that you have to replace the entire bullet assembly and tap into the wiring ;(

Maybe it's time to go with LED's, which are much cooler and are sealed electronics???

Check out Custom Dynamics...they have a "kit" for all four amber bulbs with a load equalizer.  They are super bright!!

I beleive that an LED solution is the only way to go at this point.  Has anyone done this mod for the front (4825 - amber with smoked lenses) and rear (4827 - red with red lenses) on a SERK?

Do the installation require the load equalizer?  I read the manual at Kuryakyn's site and it sounds as if in some applications the load equalizer is not necessary.

my understanding is if you add additional LEDs and retain you stock bulbs you dont need the equalizer. but if you remove the bulbs you do need it

I did the front and rear LED's from custom dynamics. You will need a load equalizer if you do both but not if just the front or rear. I also used their cluster that turns the rear turn into a brake/turn combo. All works well and you will cover up the stock reflector with the LED cluster. As for water in the lens, I had the same problem. Use a hot glue gun to seal the whole lens so you can still access the bulbs if needed.
