No worries about the verbage. The only place the EITMS will help you is when the bike is in an overheated state. Then the rear cylinder will shut down, btw when it does this it is supposed to have a horrid smell that accompanies it.
Personally since my bike is tuned and has true duals I have chosen to leave it off. I don't know anyone actually running this with it turned on. You are right though if you don't have a SERT you have to ask them to turn it on and they will do so for free the first time. How much into being a guinea pig are you, you might want to try it and give us some feedback on it. I am sure some of the CA people might really like to know if it is a worthwhile feature to have turned on for those having to live up to CARB standards.
Sorry wish I had more information, but I haven't had the heating issues since I put the SERT in just the leaking gaskets or I would have probably given it a test by now.
