« on: August 25, 2007, 08:41:22 AM »

Has anyone changed their handlebars and can I get awy w/o longer cables? My stock bars are about 2 inches too short. Does anyone have any suggestions on which bars to purchase? thanks

red1dr,

Welcome to the site! Nice ride.
I have an 01 and wanted longer bags also. I mounted the "Fat Bars" from Kuryakyn. They have a beach bar type of profile. And since they are 1 1/4", I ran the wiring through them. Cleaned up the bars and I had no problems with the cables. Only down side is the price; $145.00. Good product though.

Red1, the handle bar is very simple to change.  I went with the 00' Road King bar first and found it to be too short and I had to reach.  Spent $50 plus tax at the Harley dealership for a Heritage Classic bar and been happy every since.  You can't go wrong with this bar.  Here in Houston all the Solo Units (Motorcycle Cops) use this handle bar on their Road King, 8 hours a day/40 hours a week.  If you have big bucks then go for the Chubby bars or  the Kuryakyn bars and pay the additional money to run the lines inside the bars.   :soapbox:

Red1, I know what you mean,  I am only 5'9" but, my problem is poor blood circulation in my hands.  I have the bar angled very low, just clearing the console.  At that position I can go longer periods of time without my hands going to sleep.  Try it I really think you will be pleased.

No, it is a simple change that you should complete with in 40 minutes even on your first try.

You wouldn't happen to have a part number would you?  Or year? I went to the dealership today and was surprised to find how many part numbers there were for the Heritage Classic bars depending on what year.

Waco, I see you live in Houston.  Go to Mancuso's part department and ask Heritage Classic bars.  They have not change over the years.  They are the same bars that they use on the police Road Kings.  I don't have a P & A catalog available.  This will be the best $50 that you will every spend for your Road Glide or Road King.

Waco, I will look it up in my Harley's P&A catalog today when I get to the office.  Just in case you don't have any luck or you can call me around 1300 hours at 713-247-2859 and I will give you the part number.  The cost is around $54 with tax's. I know Mancuso at the North Main location usually have them in stock because they install them on the Police Road Kings.
