I drove 10 miles to my house and back jug is leaking at base and there is a mall spot at base of front jug. That has got to be the record. 10 Miles to a failure. They used the "B" Gasket on the front cylinder.
I am about to give up on this bike. Total miles 4450 and 3 failures.

Have read of this prospective "fix" or "next change" several times now.  Where'd the notion originate?

Seemed to start from someone saying there needed to be one followed by someone else telling him the "dealer told him" there was something new coming.  That's pretty flimsy evidence.  Especially considering Harley's history with information and its dissemination.

Was there more I'd missed? Or are all the 110 guys just being especially optimisitic right now.  Hate to think you're all really expecting the SE Servicar.

UltraFXR started it. I dug as deep as I could and "IT" was confirmed, but not defined. Production first, repairs second. Once it hits production, the bag will be untied and the feline will emerge.

I've posted this before, many have had a re-occurring leak very shortly after gasket change. I would assume its because the hasket was not the problem, but most likely the liners.  Also have the studs checked for proper torque and ask HD Customer Service to allow the head torque increased by 5 FT lbs.  They will approve that.

I called the dealer back and they said it might be residual oil from the repair. I wiped it off with Bounty and went for a 3 mile ride and both jugs are leaking at the base. I don't know that increasing the torque on the head bolts will help this.

Chief, Will the new "fix" take care of the jug base leak or only fix the head leak?

Would the sleeve moving cause a leak at the base or is this another problem?
Thanks,
Deacon

What you're seeing is the oil that leaked up top, finding it's way out at the bottom. Once the leak up top stops, no more oil and no more mess on the cases. I don't know any specifics about what is coming, period, nothing.

If the sleeve has moved and has created a gap up top, ain't no gasket gonna seal that. The -07B gasket is more pliable and 'squishier' so it can absorb a small amount of movement; on the order of 5 mils (0.005"). Anything more than that and she's gonna leak.

I could be way off on this one, but my gut is telling me we're gonna see new cylinders released in a couple of weeks. The slipping liner is the primary mode of failure, so it's logical, and that's the potential flaw in this theory, that new cylinders would be released to stop the liner movement, and therefore the leaks. Please remember, this is based on nothing but a gut feeling and I ate Mexican last night. ;)

Don's right about one thing and I am optimistic. I just hope this optimism is warranted and not false hope.

Thanks Chief,
Fingers Crossed. I am not bring my bike back until they have something new to offer. It's not worth them tearing my motor down every 10 miles.

I do have to admit, 10 miles is terrible. If the leak is manageable, I'd just keep an eye on it to see if it is getting any worse. By time I get back in to address my leak, it will have been leaking for 8,000 miles or so. Hopefully she holds on our DC trip in a few weeks. :2vrolijk_21:

Maybe the oil is still in the stud holes from the frst leak.  They probably didn't remove the cylinders, just changed the head gasket.

They replaced the O-rings for base leaks this time as well as the "B" Gasket. They had to remove the clyinders for the O-rings.

I was talking to my dealer today about the CVO issues. He said he attended a dealers retreat a couple weeks ago and the CVO problems were part of discussions. The dealers were told that there are 2 concerns with the CVO's, leaking head gaskets and cylinder liner movement and that the Mo Co has tested a fix and feel they have perminate fixes to resolve these issues. The dealers are suppose to see repair bulletins in the next 3 weeks as well as parts to correct these problems.

I hope they get this right for you guys.... good luck

If that's what they did, that's why you're base gaskets are leaking. You shouldn't unbolt the heads without pulling the cylinders and replacing the base O-ring gaskets. That would have been extremely foolish on their part.

That is good to hear.  This info jibes with what I was told a couple weeks ago.  They do seem to believe they've got it figured out after only two years of beta testing by their most loyal and generous customers, lol.  Chins up guys I think we're near the end of our troubles.

It will be interesting to see if the affected customers are notified of this situation.  (besides seeing the oil leaks)
Can't wait to see this bulletin posted here!  Also I'm curious to see how this would apply to post factory warranty engines.  Maybe that's why they are waiting to release the fix.  The fix is one thing, but the cost is another.
