2007 CVO ULTRA

The bike has had a noisy valve train since day one.
The Starter makes an occasional horible noise on occasion.

13,000 miles: Developed Rear Cyl Head Gasket leak two days after Syn3 oil change.

I'll be taking her in for warrenty work now!

Any tips on the New & Improved 110" engine I saw mentioned in a few related threads?
What combination of issues/failures add's up to a New Power Plant?

Luck me, I just got the Vrod running again after a winter rebuild of the 1320 BigBore.

Noel

The official path to a new motor is excessive crank runout.  The factory go no go spec was .003, then in August of 2007 it was bumped to .012.  Mine measured .020.  I think they upped the limit again.  Basically you need at least gaskets (new composite type, cylinders checked for slippage, and have them (HD) pay to check for crank runout.  It's only a bit more labor that you could even offer to pay, but you might get a new motor and you'll have piece of mind that ole bessie is not going to lock up on the interstate.
Open a customer service call with HD, get a reference number.  Then bring it to the dealer.  Ask HD for the crank runout check, don't accept one new liner or one gasket in a motor with that mileage.  If you don't open a case, you might get a dealer that is unawre of the issues and they will replace your gaskets with a set (or one) of the previous four types that have all failed.  Same for the cylinders.  Demand they check the crank.

 :soapbox:
After complaining and complaining and appearing to whinge. My dealer constantly saying, you shouldn't listen to forums because you don't know if these people actually have the problems you are discussing and they could be making it up. My dealer contacted me and said the following "I did some research and apparently the liners in the pots are moving and HD have also released a new head gasket, and as a result I have ordered new pots and gaskets in for you".. what he said was exactly what WE had been saying for 8 months :pepper: :pineapple:. He also added that he had to insist for new barrels...... Bull S#$%....

Bike is now in the shop having a new set of items installed.

I was offered to install a new set of Cams, Tappets etc but I declined.. ($4000.00 cost) and my thought that if the motor was failing with the current gear, what would it do with high performance gear. ::)

When it comes back, I just wonder how long it will be before we have more problems..
I wished Australia had the Lemon Law... I very much doubt if I would buy another FLHTCUSE#.. what a waste of money.. and time.

Fact is fact.. the 110” motors are not worth the plans they were drawn on.   >:(

Cheers

looks like we beat this horse to death.   Yes it is appearant that some 110's have an issue.  I have an early build 6/06 110 in my ultra and have had no problem through 12K miles.  I drive it to experience the potential of the bike and with a 7 year warranty hope it stays together.   I truly feel for those who have suffered the apathy of their local dealer or more importantly HD.   I hope all works out for those who have experienced a problem and pray for those who haven't.

OHD, there was a discussion in a different thread this week that says that your 7 year warranty is really just 5.

Extended Warranty?.... what's that?... We're downunder here and we recieve a constant amount of downunder deals, such as "NO EXTENDED WARRANTY"... You guys are so lucky that you are offered the extra years.

I was told that if I added the upgrades, this would inturn void my warranty as well, this is another reason why we opted out from that idea.

Appart from the no extended wanrranty issues, we also pay the same cost as the US for spares, but the Australian distributor adds 150-200%, thus a US part that costs $100 will cost us close to $250+. Many of us order our parts in from the US, becasue of this.
Oh and one more thing.. when I picked up my bike there was GPS software for the international market, but no software for the Australian market. I complained, yet over 12 months down the road the issue has never been rectified.

The bike has been off the road for 5 months of that time, waitning to have the problems rectified.

Don't you just love a company that "Cares For Its Customers".

I still need someone to explain this to me..... How is a new head gasket going to seal when the sleeves are sliding up within the cylinders? I have seen it, first hand, on my engine.

I know what you are all saying is right, however, what choice do we have?

In the US, I am not certain as to how hard it is to get your money back, but here in Aus, it is virtually impossible.

I can only hope, that the new liners won't slip, and the gaskets won't leak....... "All Pigs Set and Ready to Fly" :D :D :D

Never in my 20 or so years riding, have I ever had a bike that was so unreliable... well maybe I should re-phrase that... because it is reliable.. reliably leaks.

Does anyone know what software they are using for their onboard GPS units?.. Garmin etc?.. I might be able to install another companies software to get it working... yeah right.

So much for the THRILL of a new Harley Davison.. They r3eally need to stand by their product and accept a greater degree of responsibility.

Aussie
Your point is well taken about the apparent lack of concern by the company. I am equally disappointed in their actions or lack of actions. That aside, you are not missing much in the GPS. I was first introduced to the GPS world in the late 80's and worked in that field until I retired in 2002. The HD GPS is not feature rich at all. It is a very basic system. Better than nothing but thats about it-IMHO. I use the Zumo system on my bike. I also use the Tom-Tom system with my cell phone. I do not use the HD system at all. I understand that you paid for it and it should work. My opinion.

OHD, there was a discussion in a different thread this week that says that your 7 year warranty is really just 5.

Jumping in late on this issue, purchased my FLHRSE3 08/03/06, my Extended Warranty expires 08/03/13. I have 7 years of warranty. Although, the FLHRSE3 came with a 2 year warranty, I paid for a 5 year Extended Warranty. My point is if my 7 year warranty is realy just 5, shouldn't the expiration date be 08/03/11?
