Okay. Just picked mine up from the dealer a couple of hours ago. It does run hotter for the moment. Almost like when it was brand new before I added the SERT and all and richened it up. I am breaking it in (not over 50 or 3,000 RPM's for the first 50). Rode about 10 miles from the dealer to eat and another 7-8 back to the house. Temp here about 80 degrees. Got home and checked the rear cylinder temp and it was 313. Almost 100 degrees hotter than it was before I took it in under similar weather conditions. Maybe the whole seatting the rings and riding slower is the cause. Brought back some not so fond memories of the old heat issue though. I will keep an eye on it all, heat included and post it here.

On a more positive note, I forgot to mention to my dealer that the neutral light was not working and they found and fixed that by replacing the indicator lamp assembly so cudo's to Ocala HD Service Department (Jason M was the tech). :2vrolijk_21:

Rode around with Mama for a little bit this evening to test out my newly acquired Corbin Seat (Thanks Hazer)  :bananarock:. The weather was really nice. Only went about 15 miles around the block, not any stop and go. No real stops at any lights. Got home and measured the temp in the same spot as above............ 342! It did sit for about a minute before I checked it yesterday in hotter conditions, might have even been hotter than tonight had I checked it right away. I have no idea why it would go back to running hotter again.

Anyway, a friend of mine ( a mechanic) has a stoke gauge that he bought and used on his bike after buying a race tuner so he could get his bike set perfectly. He actually installed it in the dash in place of the air temp gauge for several months while he "tinkered" with it. He has it running to both O2 sensors and uses a toggle switch to flip back and forth from front to rear cylinder. We are going to mount this gauge on the Smurf, probably on the Road Tech GPS mount, for about a week or so and compare the numbers on the SERT to actual "stoke" to dial it in true. I will keep you posted!

Rob,

Thought you were on the outs with Ocala HD or is that just not going to buy another one from Mark and the gang?

Just mainly the way I was treated by The sales manager, finance guy and the refusal to deal with it by the GM pretty much said to me what they felt about my business as far as bike purchases are concerned. The service guys really have stepped it up several notches. One of my favorites is now over at the service department now so that's what tempted me in and the rest of the guys have been doing a good job since on my stuff. I can tell they are trying to do better and have been IMO. But no more bikes from there, yes.

Once more in Paris, France @ 5000 miles  .
:sauer005:
They decide to change both cylinders & rings.the rear cylinder was separating from the sleeve.
Lucky parts are in stock in France, I'll have the bike back next week !
Does the warranty restart from now ?

Unfortunately, this isn't normally the case. The waranty states that they will repair or replace defective items for a period of 2 years from the date of purchase. The leaks could be a whole different story as there is a very wide spread problem that they have not figured out how to fix yet. It's anyone's guess how they're going to address this come warranty expiration time beginning next summer.

Sorry for being late with this.
Primary chain with the auto tensioner @ 6171 miles
Rear cylinder @ 6410 miles
Total Mileage 7017

Update: 07/30/08

Engine replaced at 7140 miles due to crank runout very high.

New engine still OK at 12,000 miles on the odo.

Yup, I guess there are a few guys in the Moco whose minds are becoming concentrated enough on this to make their sphincter tingle!  :behead: :hanged: :vrolijk27:

As evidenced by their lack of action thus far, I don't think that they really give a rat's a$$.  But, I do think that they will almost have to address it prior to expiration of some of the warranties.  Knowing the MOCO, they will probably offer up something like...6 months extended warranty, or some such chit.

I think they DO give a rat's a$$ - but they don't know how to fix it, and next summer won't be long in coming round, at which time, if they haven't got a proper fix, it'll all go very public.  Thereupon there will be  a dreadful smell of broken glass and I suspect there will be some staff at the Moco being invited to try a career change.

Maybe they'll do something similar to what was done when they had problems w/the '00 cam bearing. Didn't they offer an additional 5yrs/50K miles to all bikes during a certain build date?

Well, they already offered me a 4 year warranty on mine, d00d - and I told the dealer to remind them about it.  ;)  But I don't want an extended warranty that means I get if fixed for free, I want a fixed bike that doesn't need fixed again!

I've got no head gasket problem yet <fingers crossed> but as far as I can see, it's going to happen - why would my bike be the exception?  :o

I understand that and totally agree. :2vrolijk_21: I can't remember the specifics on that warranty I spoke of either. I'm not sure if it was 5yrs/50K for bikes that fit the build date that hadn't been repaired, or bikes that had been repaired getting the extended warranty. :nixweiss:
