I’ve managed to ride that fine line between aggressive corning and scraping metal for almost a year now, today I took the MSF-ERC and was disheartened by the repeated dreaded sound of abrading chrome.  But on the bright side, I no longer have to be concerned about those initial scrapes and can ride the bike like it was intended to be ridden.

Grind that metal off.  Harley will sell you more.  Don't go so hard at it that the rear well loses contact with the road because the weight of the bike is on the floorboard.

I do a occasional grinding of the jiffy stand, but cringe if floorboard grinds some. I have done it, but the thought of chrome grinding is like stabbing me w/a knife. I know I've got OCD bad what can I say.

And trust me (from experience). When you hear that sound you are getting almost ready to dump it ...(OUCH)

It seems to happen to me a fair amount.  I just don't look at the damage.  If you don't see it, it doesn't exist.

I have a fine mil file I use to file the sharp edges that occur when you grind the footboards. You can't tell there's any damage except the lip on the side of the footboards is wider in the front than in the back.

The cross brace under the tranny usually suffers a ding or two after I've ridden the bike off the beaten path at some point. Gotta be careful of that with a true-track

Have scraped and scraped, but don't find it comforting or pleasing when actively riding the mountain curves here.  Have learned to lean just far enough to avoid the grinding of metal.  There's good advice in the quote above.  Read an interview of World Superbike Racers recently and each was asked to describe their worst crash.  One of them noted it wasn't in a race, but on the street actively scraping their Fatboy on a curve and went too far, ejecting them and their passenger violently.

I have been grinding foot pegs/boards for 33 years now.  When I was a kid (14 yrs) I had a reputation for riding the bikes with an inch ground of the bottom end of both foot pegs.

Some folks don't believe me when I tell them that I grind the foot boards on my bagger riding two-up.

Yep, grinding chrome sends a cold chill up my spine, but HD will sell you more.

When it comes to grinding foot boards.... well in the words of Clint Eastwood "A man has to know his limitations".  I don't recommend it >> you know it is the old "do as I say, not as I do" thing.

Ok, so I took the new 08 SERK out for a spin last Sunday, and ground something on the left side. Didn't know what I ground, because I couldn't see any clear and present eveidence of it. I took the bike along the same road yesterday, and touched down pretty good on the ride floorboard. The guy behind me said, "Man the sparks were flyin'". When we got to our destination, there was a major chunk ground out of the footboard. When you ran your fingers along it, it had shards of ground metal. Kewl.

Lesson: Confucious say, Man who ride lowered cruiser should not ride like he's on Ninja!

My friend, who rides his Beemer like he rented it, said, "Man, you ride that thing like you stole it!"

PS: We rode through the Lake Mead Recreation Area and got nabbed by a Park Ranger, doing 78 mph in a 50 zone. My friend tried denying it, claiming he had slowed down, but all I can say is that it is a good thing he didn't get us 5 miles earlier when we doing over 100! I didn't just say that...

Man Quint, it didn't take you long to realize you need a stock height Traxxion suspension. Then you'll be able to ride it closer to that ninja style you like! Glad to see you're enjoying it! Good luck with it. I've had my issues with mine. But I still love the way this bike rides! Solve all the issues, and it's one perfect Road King!
