« on: August 30, 2007, 09:51:23 PM »

What's the verdict ?

Heat issues solved ?
Leaky rear cylinder gasket issue solved ?
How's the new hard shell tour-pak ? It looks redesigned from a standard UC. The shape seems a bit different
Word is the stock 08 seat is actually rideable
Paint quality ?

Seat is very nice
Paint is so so lots of orange peel
large tour pak is great
have a bad rear head gasket
Hot how does 315 sound I call it a nut roaster.  I've actually heard of 2nd degree burns from the heat.
other than that a great bike with fantastic brakes.

I have had my 08 SEUC for a month now.

Paint is ok (very minor orange-peel in a couple of places - really have to know what you are looking for to notice)

My motor is running about 225 degrees, but I have changed my exhaust to V&H Big Shot Duals and added the SE back plate on the A/C.

For me, the seat is just ok.  The looks of the seat don't excite me very much.  Comfort is ok, the wife says it is more comfortable that the seat on the 02 Ultra.  The seat is about 2" thicker, which is not great for me at 5' 8".  I am thinking of switching to a Corbin.

No gasket problems yet.

No oil leaks either

The only issue so far, is that the chrome on the end of the right handgrip (Ironside grip) is peeling off.  Already called the dealer and told them I will be bringing it in sometime in the next week or so.

Are you saying that you did the pipes and A/F without ECM mods? I'd keep a close eye on things if you did that. The motor's way to lean stock. You just leaned it out more. :nixweiss:

The number one problem is H-E-A-T!  The wife will not ride again until I solve the issue.  I just install a pair of D&D slip-on.  I hoping the mufflers along will not cause it to run any leaner.  The seat is confortable but looks cheap when compared to the 06 & 07.  I love the tour pak and waiting for the spoiler for it and the saddlebag to come.  No leaks or bad gasket as of yet.  I am very happy with the bike so far.  Wished it performed as well as my 2000 Screamin Eagle Road Glide, maybe one day.

Try removing the heat shields installing heat wrap and reinstalling the shields.  It made a big difference.  You can buy the product in any automotive performance shop.  Black looks the best.  Use the heat shield clamps plus a few more radiator clamps to secure the material to the headers.  I didn't bother doing the left side. Good luck

My buddy got an 08SEUC. He's already had oil spit out the air cleaner. Oil temp consistently is 310-320. He is not happy. Bike is bone stock.  >:(

The only way to cool them down is to change the exhaust, A/C, and get the bike tuned.  Could be a problem if you live in Denver and have to keep factory exhaust.

If he has oil coming out the air cleaner...that's typically a sign of being overfilled.  Usually a dealer will top everything off when doing set up.  They top it off to the top mark when it's cold and really that should be used for when it's hot.  When the oil expands, it comes out the breather vents and into the air cleaner as an oil mist.  Thus, the oil puke.   :beerchug:

Heat remains a MAJOR issue.  Waiting for the 08 SERT so I can change the pipes and AC.  I spoke with a Harley VP of engineering at Mid-Ohio race track after driving a demo.  He says that is the only way to lower the heat.  BTW, they went to electronic throttle to allow them to get even closer to the EPA regs and get a bit more power.  He said that they are getting air/fuel ratios as high as 17.5:1.  This is VERY VERY lean, no wonder they are so hot.

Rear cylinder gasket fine so far (500 miles)

Hard Tour Pack is great.

Wife loves seat, I will make it and the tour pack removable and put on something like a Corbin when riding alone.

Front fender has some slight orange peel.  Otherwise paint looks great.

Have 500 mi on mine. Only two issues: air in the clutch line and a dead battery in the security fob.

IROAD, thanks for the information.  I will give it a try.  My plans are to swap my D&D 2into 1 from my Road Glide after the 08 SCRT hit the market.  In that case I will rap the rear header pipe even if it is cooler.  I was surprise when Mark at D&D told me that my D&D Quiet Pipes(2 into 1) would fit my 08 with only a transmission bracket change.  I ordered it and will be making the swap soon.
