Which are the best True Duals for an 08 SERK?
« on: September 07, 2007, 05:23:27 PM »

As I'm sitting around waiting for Harley to finally deliver the SERTs for the 08's, I'm working on making up a package to put on her. I know True Duals would not be the first choice if performance was the only criteria but damn I like the sound of my Rinehart's on my last bike?

Which are the best True Duals for delivering what you motor is making?  :nixweiss:  I'm bias to the torque side of thing if all thing are equal. Would the "quiet" baffles be the way to go for making most torque possible with this style pipe?

I ride this bike everyday I can. When we go on trips, say to either coast, I become my lady's UPS truck. My days of wrist rocketing are pretty much done but....I love a good kick in the butt when you open er' up.

I joined this site to learn. I've picked up on several things already.   Thanks for the help :)

You're welcome. :2vrolijk_21:

I'm using the standard baffles that come w/Rinehart's.

JW,

I don't think you could go wrong with Rineharts or V&H.  I am on my second bike with V&H and will seriously consider V&H next time.

On the 02 Ultra I had the V&H Dresser Dual Headers with Screamin Eagle slip-ons.  On the new bike I have the V&H Big Shot Duals.  The Big Shot Duals look great (IMO) with a single piece heat shield from end to end.  They have a few different tip options (I am going with the fish-tails).  IMO the standard baffles are too loud.  I just switched to the quiet baffles >> still sounds off really good with quiet baffles >> supposed to increase the torque with the quiet baffles.  Here is a link to V&H if you want to check them out

JW,

I've never been dissapointed with Rineharts!  Even better with the bigger motors.

Just checked Drag Specialities Fatbook for different baffles for the Rinehart True Duals, and the only optional baffle they are showing is - 1861-0314  2 1/4” i.d. Hi-Flo performance baffles (pr.)   $114.95. I'm not sure what the size of the standard ones are, but since they are saying "Hi-Flo Performance" would lead me to believe these would be a tad bit louder. :nixweiss:

I have an old part number of 0411-1001 for quiet baffle. Maybe they dropped it. I can live with the standard if that's my option. I agree with you, Hi-Flo should mean it's louder. Could be wrong.  :nixweiss:

Don't count them out to soon. I just put that P/N (0411-1001) in the Fatbook and it found them - 0411-1001  2” i.d. quiet baffles (pr.)   $109.95. Still nothing shows what the size of the stock baffles are. :confused5: My bad, they were showing these all the time.

Black Diamond,
Wow, that's almost like asking what color is the best (we all know black and orange is of course ;) ).   I would recommend you try and find bikes with the different sets on them and have a listen.  I was fortunate when I bought my Jester that they had two bikes at the dealership, one with V&H duals and the Oval slippons and another with the Rineharts.  After listening to both, I chose the V&H because the looks just hit me better and they are a tad, about 5db quieter than the Rineharts.  The V&H true duals are one size all the way back to the mufflers which will result in torque coming in a little lower in the power band than the stepped Rinehart duals.  The stepped duals will give you better HP numbers up around 5500 rpms, but the torque rolls on a little higher in the band.  I reach peak torque at about 2700 rpms and then it pulls flat for quite a while.  I do most of my riding in that range so the non-stepped headers were best for me.  I could have put Rinehart slippons on, but just like the looks of the V&H Ovals better.

Hope this helps.  For more information, check out the dyno section of this forum and see the results for yourself.

Cheers :2vrolijk_21:,

Thanks Devil

Good info on the stepped vs one size header for the low end torque. I'll have to find someone's scooter with a set on and have a listen.  ;)  I've been looking at dyno sec for info too. This is the first I've heard of the V&H being quieter than the RH. Still wondering if the quiet baffles would help with low end torque on Rineharts?  :nixweiss:  I'm sure someone on this site knows.

And your half right on color.   BLACK   ;D

I could be mistaken, but I think the standard baffle in new RH's is a 2 1/4".  The quiet is 2".  I've never really checked into it, but I also think the "performance baffle" is a 2 1/2".

You could not go wrong with either V&H or RH. Chrome is excellent on both.  RH, from most experiences I've read here on this forum, has exceptional customer service.  I really don't think your butt dyno would know much difference in the two's performance.  I personally prefer the looks of the RH's, as they look "fatter" due to the increased size of the header pipes/heat shields.  If I were picking a V&H muffler, it would probably be the Oval...good sound, and a good look.

If you are looking for maximum torque numbers, the two into one is generally the best choice.  There are so many other things that come into play though, I think it boils down to which one you like the sound/looks of the best.

Fired00d

Thanks again for earlier help.  What your opinion on baffles?

I just installed a set of " Quiet Baffles not the Performance Baffle  on mine . Quiet at cruise , nice bark when you twist it. Has a little muted sound to it, the deep rumble is gone but damn it's nice at cruise. Really perked up the bottom, I gave up a little from about 4500 up...That;s OK because I rarely ride there..Kinda curious what the mileage will be , because it richened it up a tad..Gettin ready to put the Twin Scan plus on it and dial it before H.S this weekend

P.S I have a set of performance baffles coming I"ll also try those.. Stay Tuned>> Greg
