Antennas
« on: September 12, 2007, 09:00:58 AM »

Its probably been covered before but I'd like to replace the whips with something shorter.   There isn't much available in the UK as far as I'm aware.
My father is visiting the US next month and in addition to the list I've given him for other Harley stuff, I'd like to ask him to get the short antennas.
If anyone can advise on make and where to get them, I would appreciate it.  (He's visiting the Covina, area of California).

Many Thanks
Andy P

Andy,

The general consensus for replacing the whips is to use J&M Fiberglass shorite. You can fine them here: http://www.jmcorp.com/SeeProducts.asp?PF=6

P.S. The "Jester" name came from the paint job on the fairing, resembling a Jester's hat.

Good luck,

Andy,

Many of us have gone with the J & M antennas and like them.  You can get them directly from J & M or Sierra Electronics via the WEB.

I'm with them, JM is probably the best there is. Do a search on ebay or amazon for best price.

I just remove my antennas with an allen wrench and cut them (about 2 1/2'), equally length on both and reinstalled them.  Both the CB and radio works well and it still looks stock.

ooooooooooh, bad, bad, bad.  :o  If you're never going to use the CB, then no problem.  But you de-tuned that antenna even more then it was from the factory.  The factory antenna is bad out of the box, over 3:1 SWR on channel 20.  I would highly recommend the J&M antennas.  They look great and out-perform the stock whips hands down.  Plus they don't "deform" like other rubber duckies I've seen on bikes after they've been "bent" by the wind after a while.

Agreed RedDevil...
I did cut my stock antennas as I don't use the CB and the look is great, all it costs you is your time and the FM reception is the same (at least on mine).

Those Freedom rubber duckies do look like crap if you run in warm weather at speed and I imagine over time in any climate.  Mine were bent after one long trip to CC after I got them.

I'm now running the J&M's with great performance and appearance.
