anyone thought about a subwoofer in the TP?
« on: September 13, 2007, 09:15:05 PM »

Our factory sound systems are a little light in the bass.  Could be the waterproof speakers, I dunno.  Has anyone thought about a subwoofer in the tour pack?  I've seen a lot of "Pimp My Ride" episodes and the sound system is one of the first things that get upgraded.  If I went with the Hog Wired amp in the front, could I use the rear amp for a sub woofer? Just thinking out loud.  I don't know crap about stereos....

I can see it now, ground effects lighting, a lowering kit, leaning way back with just my wrists on the handlebars, maybe a little bounce in the front at the red lights.....

OK, it's an official Cash Cab shout out to Jim (HD-DUDE).  Can a sub woofer be placed in the TP?  Do you know of anyone who's done it?

Why would you want to do that?  Don't you use your bike for touring?  -Let the punks with their $200 cars boasting $5,000 stereos keep that turf to themselves!   :2vrolijk_21:

It makes no sense to me to even consider giving up valuable storage space on a Touring bike just to slightly improve the bass response of the sound system.  If strong bass is that important, get some good headphones and rig up an audio out jack to plug them into.  Slightly illegal in most states, but what the hey.  And that way I don't have to listen to your racket.

There was an article in one of the bike mags this past summer that detailed a build where the owner filled the bags with amps, crossovers, and speakers.  You could tell by the details of the build as well as the owner profile that this bike was just one more of those "Kalifornia Kustom" bikes meant to be seen but rarely ridden.  All it lacked was the hydraulic suspension jacks and fuzzy dice.

That stuff is fine for impressing the kids at bike shows, but has no place on a real bike that someone intends to actually ride on a regular basis.  JMHO, and no offense intended.

I've seen bikes with speakers cut into the front of the saddlebags, but they are destroyed for further use by us regular guys.  It seems to me that there is enough room between the back wheel and the saddlebags for a sub if you wanted to be creative (without cutting into the glass).  Also, relocating the rear amp could give you enough room for a speaker there as well.  Subs don't need to point at you, and they are better when they are mounted to framework so the sound resonates from the whole chassis.  Good luck finding the solution.  I agree that I wouldn't want to give up any storage for sound, but there are places...

Can it? Yes. Would i do it? No. When you are in the wind the way the low frequencies travel you just don't hear them. The key to good sound on a bike is lots of clean distortion free power. The low-mid, mid, and high frequencies are the most important. The main design of the hawg wired system is to provide just that. Imagine being able to understand AM talk radio at 85 mph. That's clean power! The HW system with the CX speakers do provide a much "fuller" sound than the stock setup.

Having said all of this HW amps do have a sub output that runs to one of thier satelite 75 Watt amps. This single amp could run an 8" or maybe even a 10" woofer, either in the TP or a saddlebag. This will make for an awesome sounding system while your in the garage and going down the strip at 20mph but other than that?????

Get an aura bass shaker, http://www.aurasound.com/ , and bolt it under seat or in tour pack.
