Iam frustrated with HD dealers
« on: September 14, 2007, 05:18:09 PM »

Well i was wanting to trade my 07 SEUC in for an 08 SEUC. Darn dealer only wanted to give me 27k trade in versus asking 40k for his new one. I argued with him & it didn't do much good at all. I told him that he was getting premo dollar for his & only giving me low book value for mine. I said that they make enough off us when they sell them at MSRP & that anything over that was pure greed. I made 3 phone calls & found one at MSRP at dealers less than 3 hrs away while i was sitting in the salesmans office & him listening to me. Iam a good customer & they treat you like chit. If & when iam ready for a new bike i won't be buying from them & i told them that. There response was well we only have a chance to make some real profit on the Screaming Eagles. Like they dont make any profit on the others as well.  I just laughed & walked out. Sorry for the rant. Hope i didnt post in wrong spot.

I considered trading my 07 on a 08 and figured it would cost over 18 grand with taxes before it was done to do the deal. too much. not worth it in my book. If they had come out with a water cooled motor, with no problems, then maybe, but 18 grand for the changes is not worth it to me. Heck, for that money you could almost buy a new 08 classic with abs without trading in the 07. Im not that unhappy with my 07 SE.

newseultra07,

You need to get together with the gentleman who wrote the following post in another thread and find out who his dealer is.  Somehow he is trading every year for next to nothing.  Of course, he might be the dealer's son, he doesn't really say.  :confused5:

Jerry   ;D

..................................... Purchased the 06 SEUC and after one year and 11K on the clock , I traded the 06 it in for $2400 less than I paid for it on the new 07 SEUC when the new engine and trans came out.  Now I'm trading in the 07 on the 08 and loosing only $3K on the deal after another year and $10k miles. .....................................................  Cerdo

You really shouldn't use a blanket statement like "I hate HD dealers "when your problem seems to be with one dealer in particular.  It wouldn't really matter if it was motorcycles, cars, or bicycles, your trying to trade in a barely 1 year old vehicle for a nw style current one. You won't get  a smoking deal anywhere doing this sceneraio. But keep trying.

No problem on the rant, most of us understand.  Pretty common scenario with Southern California dealers.   :(

I didn't mean all dealers, my bad. I know there in retail but come on, I figured out they made almost 6k when they sold me the bike. They told me that the 27k was was what they paid for it from HD. So at MSRP they are making $6300. If i trade which iam not they would be getting another 6k on front end & then whatever they sold mine for. I figure they would come out almost 10k ahead. Not bad for a days work. I just pisses me off is all. Sorry for ranting. They said well were only are getting so many & its our only chance to make some $$$$$$$$. Not off me. Old saying screw me once shame on you, screw me twice shame on me.. I think thats way it goes.....

It's okay, believe me I understand where you're coming from.  Heck, this is the right place to let it all out, where else can you go?   :nixweiss:

If your local dealer is selling above MSRP regard that as a potential good thing.  Should  you decide to sell your SEUC yourself, a local buyer will see a larger spread between your asking price and that of the dealers.  Couple that with the potential of your buyer paying no sales tax (depending on where you live) you have a significant marketing advantage thanks to your dealer's pricing strategy.  He's helping you retain the value of your bike!

Travel as far as you need to then purchase the 08 at MSRP

This is why I'll never buy another new Harley. The local stealer in Colorado Springs continues to gouge their customers for every penny they can squeeze out. I think the owners are originally from California (no offense to my California CVO bretheren!!). It's just possible they brought that mindset with them. At any rate, I feel much better now that I only go to the dealership to get a part I can't find anywhere else. Yes, I'm a recovering Harleyholic. Used to spend BIG bucks on motorclothes and anything with the bar & shield on it.
Good advice here about selling your 1 year old bike. Me, I'm too poor to get a new bike every year and truth be told, I wouldn't do it even if I had the money. Find a bike you love and stick with it.
Me, I don't hate Harley dealerships, I just avoid them  ;D

Depending on what your sales tax is........you could look at it as them giving you 30k for your bike because of the sales tax that you won't have to pay on the trade in :-\

No offense taken!  :2vrolijk_21: We have some real pieces of work out west, I suspect that the CSC dealer came from the Bob Dron (Oakland, CA) school of screwing customers.
