Sorry for my ignorance but what is a POI loader and what does it do?

I found the POI loader under tips and tricks on this site and also a link to the US and Canadian dealerships. When you load the dealerships or other POI you can set a proximity sensor that will alert you when you come within the distance you set. Like I set mine to alert at 10,000 ft from a dealership. It also displays a cool HD logo on the screen at the location.

Smiler, the loader is just a piece of software.  Nothing special at all.  And it's free.

POI's are points of interest.  Anything from a single place you'd like to keep track of to a collect of places.  Usually they are collected as a collection of places.  A database of geographic locations and other informations about places (like Harley dealerships, speed camera locations or anything else you'd want to keep track of).

Some GPS units allow you to load POIs to them.  The POI loader is the software that "talks" to your GPS from your computer and loads the points of interest.

No problem I had to get the unit off the bike to update City Navigator anyway. Besides if I asked you to test something for me you'd be more then willing to do it. :2vrolijk_21:

A database of geographic locations and other informations about places (like Harley dealerships, speed camera

That would be good for known speed trap areas.

Hoist!!! Are you listening? Sounds like you need a GPS.

That's the best compelling arguement I've heard to get one. But it might slow me down though. It will alert enforcement areas that might not being enforced at the time I'm flying by! :nixweiss:

True, but it won't slow you down as much as sitting on the side of the road talking to the po-po for the ones that were being enforced.  :2vrolijk_21:

All these GPS units are water proof I hope? Seems like whenever I go touring, I end up with one full day of rain and everything gets soaked.

I know for sure the Zumo is, and I believe the 2820 is. I was on a road trip this summer and went thru a gully washing rain/thunderstorm and it kept going right thru it. :2vrolijk_21:

Just a quick comment on Garmin.
I was playing with my new Zumo and my old Quest 2 yesterday, I managed to lock up the Quest. I repeatedly tried to reset the unit (power & in at the same time), powered on and off but still stayed locked up. I called Garmin and was told it was out of warranty but have no fear "since you did register it we don't worry about time limits on registered products, here is your warranty service authorization number to mark on the return label, we will fix it or replace it and have it back to you in a week."
This unit ran out of warranty almost a year ago! Hows that for customer service?
MoCo, you listening?
Two things I learned from this experience, don't forget to register your product at Garmin and it is a first class company that have now earned my loyalty.
(the exact opposite of H D MoCo)

Scot,
I found the way to enter these into the Zumo. The directions are in this thread/post - Zumo Tips/Tricks...
