Has anyone had the seat reworked on a 07 SE Ultra?
« on: September 18, 2007, 11:12:53 AM »

My Biggest complaint on my 07 SE Ultra is the factory seat. I want to have it reworked. I love the way it looks, But hate the way it feels. Its the least comfortable seat I have had in all the Harley's I have owned, and I have owned 13. I want to keep a factory look, but need more comfort. Sure wish they had used a seat more like the 08 models. Do other owners feel the same way?

I don't know enough people with 08's to know if the seat is any good or not.

Look at a Corbin...made to match the 06/07 look, and for me, is very comfortable.  To my eye, they look better than the stock seat, and I know it's made better!!

51718-06

Fits '97-'07 Electra Glide® (except FLHX) and '98-'07 Road Glide® models.

MSRP US $899.00

I just bought this seat for less then $700.00 and it's heated.  i hate the feel of my seat also, it's the 08 seat but be careful because there are two different part #'s one for the 08 and one for 97-07

i had a freind that redid his stock seat and told me " i wish i had put the stock seat away and bought a lesser seat then repair it"

good luck

I show part number 51718-06 as the stock seat for the 06 SE Ultra. Is that seat different than the 07 SE Ultra? it is not the same as the 08 model according to my dealer. I like the idea of replacing the seat over trying to fix my factory seat. Any help is appreciated. Going to making some long rides and need more comfort.

Thanks

I would think if there was any difference in the '06, and '07 seats would be stitching/pattern in the seat. Fitament would be the same for those two years. The '08's changed the fitament in the front of the seat by reversing the female/male parts on the seat. From what I'm hearing the tab that used to be on the seat is now on the tank, and the insert that was on the tank is now on the seat.

I took the seat cover and heates off the stock seat and had them installed on a "Tall Boy" HD seat. I also added the GEL inserts to the seat.  Seat looks stock and feels great.. I rode 1249 miles in 24.5 hours for an Iron Butt ride this summer and never was sore.

I just throw the old butt buffer pad on the scoot when I head out on a long one. Ran 738 miles a few weeks ago from the other side of Dallas to Ft. Walton Beach, FL and stock seat was fine. DISCLAIMER - My arse has seen alot of very uncomfortable seats in the past. Maybe this one is just better than the others. I may really be spoiled if I bought a Corbin. I do have a Corbin solo on my Sporty though and I like it after it got molded to my butt...

I have an 06 and was terrbily sore on long runs,  had the seat reworked by http://www.day-long.com/   I love the seat now.  They even kept the seat similar to original look with insert.  Butt never gets sore. ;D

My brother in law has an 07 heated that he reworked. Took it apar, took about 1/2" of foam out and inserted a butt buffer. The heat is also more bearable now cuz it was way to hot before. For him it is very comfortable & more pleasing to the eye.

There's plenty of alternatives to the stock seat, and most are presented right here.  Just one more testament to the value we receive at CVO Harley.  The hardest part is picking an appropriate solution and making it happen.  Without this place, the hardest part is finding solutions.  Corbin, or modifying the stock seat both have their good points.  I don't know if Corbin will ever put a dual switch on their seat...............but sure as I head down the road of modifying my stock seat, Corbin will introduce a seat with dual switches.  So it's a crapshoot.  Take yer pick.  I'm gonna wait a little while and pester Corbin for info.

WILCO.  Ain't in no hurry.  Still have the airrider gel pad, and though I hate keeping up with it, it does work.  Personally............I'd rather leave the stock seat stock and get a Corbin.  They look great and are quite comfortable, but I'm hung up on the switch thing.  If they fix that, and if you're willing to wait with me, then we'll collectively pester them for a deal.  How's that?   :)

So far......the single switch on the Corbin has worked out pretty well. The benefits of the Corbin over the stock seat more than offset the lack of two switches. I'd look at getting creative in alternative controls, remote toggle or t-stat for the front element, over staying with the stocker. The Corbin is just that much better to make it all worthwhile.
