Just patiently (yeah right) waiting on my SERK. Have the SERT at the stealer waiting also. Talked with the tuner he says that after the High flow, pipe, and SERT he will turn off the closed loop mode with the SERT and set the A/F ratio at 13.8 max. How much of a difference is 13.8 (Open Loop as suggested by your tuner) to 14(Closed loop mode with CLB table at 798mVDC)Sound good ? He says that is what H.D. recommends for these engines. Ask the Tuner who or where he is referencing this...What do you'll think cause I B LOST on this one. Thanks
When anyone tells you that they will set your bike at a flat AFR like that, you are reverting in tuning accuracy.... Open Loop mode... vice Closed Loop
Now the tuner is stating that NO MATTER WHAT, the bike will be programmed to operate at this 13.8, providing that the VE's have all been corrected accurately.... There is no room for any anomolies like poor fuel quality, small intake leak, small exhaust leak, dirty air filter or a leaky injector....
Now, with the Closed Loop mode active, the bike is programmed to operate at about 14:1 (Again, providing that the VE's are dead on).... and the o2 sensors are feeding the o2 integrators constant data about what each cylinder is generating as far as an observed AFR, and making those corrections rather quickly. It is also compensating for different grades and qualities of fuel, minor leaks in the intake tract, air filter restrictions and even a weeping injector...
It's your bike, and your choice of tuner... I am just attempting to create the awareness of setting your bike to operate in Open Loop...
Me, I'd never set up a bike that way... Too many enviromental/mechanical variables that will play into the future of the tuning and rideability factor...
