John, I have found that it is often easier to ask for forgiveness than permission.

Seriously, the GPS is literally a life saver when in strange cities, and saves a LOT of time searching for motels, places to eat, etc.  It has also saved me from running out of gas a couple of times by doing a search for nearest fuel.

No offense to the Quest II owners, but the Zumo or 2820 is the way to go these days.  The MP3 player on the units is a great feature...gives you 100+ more songs to listen to, and when you need the unit to talk to you, it will interupt the music to tell you about upcoming turns.

Good information on the MP3. Between the AM/FMl, CD, Ipod, XM and the MP3 I should be set for any ride. I "almost" forgot that I had an 31 year Anniversary this next tuesday....I'm hoping that maybe she'll get a little soft and I won't have to live in the garage for a while. Don't get me wrong, it's not that bad, it's insulated, heated, refridge,(stocked with beer), Laptop w/internet and flat screen TV. I'm think I'm leaning toward the Zumo. Gotta go and do some more kissup stuff. Later,

UglyJohn, what features did you expect from HD for $1400.00?  I get more function out of my $98.00 Garmin that I can wear on my wrist, than what MoCO gives us.  This goes back to the "Is the CVO worth it" thread.

I'm sure in a few years they'll improve it.  Hell the only reason it's free in the CVO is because they have so many on the shelves and they can't sell em.

Remember a few years ago when you had to go through the whole turn signal combination to turn on the security system?  Just watching the video made my head hurt.  It was either a bunch of chip heads or the board of directors all liquored up that came up with that idea I'll tell ya!

I have the HD Conquest system and love it. Comes fully loaded with all the maps and you can add other maps if you travel outside of north america. Easy to use and you can take it in the house and enter your routes and such through the unit or a computer.  The Garmin Quest2 is the same unit; however, it does not have all of the HD dealers loaded in it. Garmin makes the unit for HD. You can purchase several mounts for it, I use the HD faring mount and you can see and operate it well from there.  I got mine on E-bay for about 25% off retail.

Cerdo,
I have the HD Quest that I kept from my old Ultra.  Had the fairing mount on that ride but it didn't have the dash pad that the CVO has.  How did you modify your dash pad to work with the fairing mount?

Yes, very easy to do! Take the dash pad off and mount the  faring mount in place. Mark the faring (top and bottom) where the gps mount goes and then remove the mount from the faring.  Set the pad in place and mark where it needs to be cut. Pull the leather back and cut the inner plastic with a hack saw (note: don't get debris under leather). Trim back the leather in glue in place. Reinstall mount and pad.. I will post pictures for you tomorrow. I did the same on the left side for the radar detector. Another note: The screws for the gps mount have some very tough locktite on them and it has been my experience that it locks in place so hard that the nuts in the plastic gps mount spins in their holes. Remove all of the thread locker from the threads before you use the screws. Just install new thread locker when finishing up.

Just talking about cutting up and drilling holes in the fairing makes my butt pucker....why not just get a chrome Techmount and mount on the bars?

None of my business, but just had to ask...

I understand, but it looks so good as a custom installation. Besides, I like doing things the hard way. LOL :nixweiss:

They are out there I found one. :D I purchased a Zumo 550 by Garmin several months ago and it is my first GPS. I've been very satisfied w/it, and it was easy to learn how to use/create routes and many of the other features it has.

Had one in my hands last night looking it over. Looks very spiffy for sure. A friend brought hers over to our Survivor Party and showed me all the cool stuff on it. I of course showed my wife the GPS looking like a puppy that lost it's ball. Now, I think my kahoona's are growing big enough to order it.  Soon....:huepfenlol2:

Hey John?

Be happy that you even got the GPS on your bike. In Australia (because we are such a tiny miniscule country) the powers that be, have decided not to release software here. They sell the bike but conveniently forgot to inform their dealers of the omission of the Software. What’s even worse they even supplied software for Europe.. yeah right! Europe’s 27hours flight away!

I ended up getting the Zumo 550 as well and it's a little beauty.. The mobile phone talks to it and also to a Bluetooth headset.

Kennedy Technology are currently working on a unit that simply plugs in the rear of the HD radio and this unit will allow you to use the phone, MP3 and GPS through the HD radio and through the headsets. (apparently it will work in place of the Bluetooth headset).  The features the Zumo offers is substantial and these features are more than you will get with the HD Radio.
Our GPS got a drenching recently and it didn't miss a beat.
If your bike has a 12v outlet the Zumo comes with cable for you to wire the GPS into the bikes 12v system.

Garman even provide you with 12 months free updates.

Best of all!... it works!!!!!! :2vrolijk_21:

My wife got a package today. I just happened  :nixweiss: to see it and took a peek. Yeah, I'm a bit nosey etc..   Well,  it sure smells, looks and feels like the Zumo GPS. Without destroying the box, I could only get a small peek, and not a good one at that! Rats! However, it's from a place that I was looking to buy the unit. O' I got the feeling..... :jalapeno: :apple:  My B-day is just around the corner in a couple of weeks. I'm going to be like a kid at Christmas.... Hopefully, it is and it'll be great to have it just before the Love Ride in LA., which is a place I get lost everytime I visit.

Isn't that a GREAT UNIT!!!!
I even bought a 2 gig SD card and downloaded a TON of MP3 songs to it and use it for that as well.
Big enough that punching out destinations on the fly is a breeze.  I love it.
