Tour Alaska - BY BIKE !!!
« on: February 22, 2005, 09:33:39 PM »

While I understand this site to be dedicated to the ownership of CVO/H-D, as someone who has an ownership/interest in our areas of motorcycling, I present the following...

Recently my best friend took at trip to Alaska to tour the state upon a motorcycle....I challenge anyone to suggest that this was not a once in a lifetime trip for most of us.  I only wish I had the experience...on a bike...

Enjoy the view...

DavidB,

As luck would have it, my friend's name is Dave B and he lives in your area...Maryville, TN....I too am considering the KLR thanks to him...He is active in the community and search...if I hear of something I will pass it your way...

Enjoy the Dragon and hope to see you in April.

I did consider the KLR but after testing it came to the conclusion that it is to small with a somewhat weak engine.

I went with the BMW R1200GS Adventure instead. (Should be delivered in March). That MC has all I need in an "adventure ride".

Some future riding plans for 2014:
- CA to Death Valley and back with Rawhyde
- three days of gravel and off road with Touratech in Sweden
- Continental divide from MX to Canada.

2015 or 2016:
Silk Road from Turkey to China.

Buddy and I rode up to Prudue Bay a few years back on BMW 1200 GSA,  It was a bucket list thing to do.  It is a wonderful place but the roads are terrible in places.

In 09 Two of my son'a and I did the Al-Can to Fairbanks. One son was on a R1200RT BMW, one on a Street Bob and I was on a Buell Ulysses XT adventure touring bike. It was the experience of a life time. One of my bucket list must do's.
