Latest 110 head gasket part number??
« on: September 25, 2007, 03:55:54 PM »

Well my 2007 FXSTSSE had it's head gaskets replaced with the "a" gaskets at around 4500 miles - we're at almost 8000 and they are both leaking a little again! Both at the gasket onto the fins, and seeping out around the base of the Cyl. as well.
Also the new lifters that were put in around 1000 miles ago are starting to tick/rap/knock at 2000 RPM just like the old set!
I want to get the gaskets replaced again and wanted to know where are we regarding the newest part number now? B? C? D?
Can anyone let me know? and anyone have any ideas about the 2000RPM ticking valve lifters?
thanks

I believe that -A is the latest, but don't go down that slippery slope (get it, oil leak) again.  If you read more topics you will see that the current remedy is changing the cylinders, pistons, rings, etc.  Also, beyond a couple of thousand miles you want both replaced.  If you don't have a customer service case opened up, do it now.  Don't let them off easy.  When they agree to do one jug, tell them you don't want half a new motor, different compression, etc.  They'll agree to change both.  Then make them pay to have the runout done before they waste your time and HD money.  That's exactly how I proceeded after the first replacement gasket failed.  The runout was excessive and I have a new motor.  You don't want a fairly new motor to be torn apart again and again.  The bolts get stressed, and they start to look like chit.

I'd like to hear some opinions here... it's moving into winter in Ohio-not a lot of riding time - I think I'm going to wait until spring to ask for the head gasket to be replaced a second time and hope for a "b" or further improved protocol from the MOCO.
I got to admit, I'm seriously thinking about giving up and just trading in for a 2008 Streetglide with a 96 motor and IDS and leave the 110 behind until they get it right

Beerman,

If its the second time around for you, most likely you'll be looking at more new parts than just headgaskets. Your thought of giving them the winter to work on it is a good idea. I may do the same, as things will be slowing down around here as well.

In all honesty, the weeping isn't that bad. It's more of a nuissance than anything else.

thanks for getting me thinking.  ;D

Not so fast. I don't want a new motor now. I want a new motor when they've fixed what's wrong. I'll give them some time to get it right, not just better.

Hey Chief,
Mine is doing it again too. This time the jugs a seeping nicely
on the case and smells like burning oil all the time and the rear
head gasket is leaking again too.
Man, this sure is frustrating and maybe should just ask for a 96 in place of the 110, HaHaHa LOL.
I am due to drop mine off in a week or so too.
It sure is a crying shame.

Part of the problem is that there are around 7000 110 motors floating around the USA ( remember some go overseas) and a typical dealer may have sold 10. A third of those went to rich guys who park them next to their Porsche and don't ride them. A few have had NO problems and are not familiar with the issues WE are having. Net net - many dealers have little to no experience with the motor. These are NOT 96's with a little extra chrome. We are the Beta / test fleet for a 110 Standard issue motor sometime in the future. I can't blame the dealers for just not knowing what to do. The "new" lifters I had put in 1500 ago are ticking/knocking away at 2000 rpm again just like the old ones. Both "new" head gaskets are leaking slightly. Oil is still "weeping" out around the base. On the plus side - the bike is running pretty good right now. The Race Fueler and the new NGK plugs, along with the less restrictive baffles seemed to be wired in.
I had planned on V&H Pro Pipe/SERT but I'm wondering if I want to throw another $1000 PLUS on a bike that keeps telling me it wants to go back to the shop.
