Don-

FWI'W, my vote was for the Kuryakyn.  The Sac's were too much bling for me.  It'll be interesting to see what's on the bike at MV..

You know he'll come up with some crazy thing he never told us about Bob! ::)

That is precisely what I think my issue is also Bob.  Visually just a bit "much" for my tastes.  The trouble is they seem to feel so exceptionally good to the hands.

Still not sure whether the visual or the functional priority will take precedence here.

Randy, that should be an entirely new poll.  Something like "Who would frag the bird that got my bike?"

I generally subscribe to the notion that I've met far more people that deserved unfriendly responses than I have animals.  But that would be one dead-assed bird.

You've probably already made you mind up, but for me ..... I bet my hand is smaller than yours, so size matters to me .... I'd stay with the proven grips, they seem like they'd more comfortable if you were truly holding onto your grips.  For me, when we are putting mile after mile down, hardly hold onto the grips, just the tippy ends of them, so the smaller the diameter the better, again this is for me.  Since I work on a computer all day - I think you do too - I am very conscious of anything that might cause any kind of spread of my hands and may cause even a hint of carpal tunnel.  I know, I worry too much about the little things.  The eagle grips look cooler though.

Candy, on longer runs when that rhythm starts to settle in I'll often see I've got just a pair of fingers draped across the end of a grip.  The ends of these are about the same diameter as the others.  The leather part is a bit larger though.  It's what actually feels pretty good when just fondling the grips.

Never got the chance to mess with the grip heaters installation last weekend.  So didn't have to decide then which grips to go back on with.  Likely will this weekend though.  Hey, maybe the ISO left grip will tear its rubber when I bust the glue off and make the decision for me....

Don-

I realize you are putting in the handlebar warmers and deciding between 2 sets of grips you already have.

Has anyone used the Performance Machine Renthal rubber grips??

Thanks, Bob

Mark at M&M sells the chrome Performance Machine grips for $126.00 (list is $149.95) so they aren't cheap.

With the handlebar heaters, what would transfer the heat better to your hands? (rubber, leather, or rubber and metal-05 stock grips, rubber/plastic ISO grips)????

Wasn't familiar with the grips you mentioned Bob.  Just saw some on eBay for a lower price than $126 should anyone happen to be shopping.

When I was speaking with the company mftring the grip heaters I asked if any type of grip was more conducive to their system than any other.  What I was told seemed both relatively obvious and to make perfect sense once he said it.

A grip with more continuous surface against the bar on the inside will transfer the heat from the elements better than a grip with gaps on the inside.  Remember these elements are heating the bar first and transferring that to the grip.

The rep said he had ISOs on his own.  They worked fine.  They are a continous rubber surface on the inside.

The rep said he'd seen some foam type grips that didn't work well.  Apparently not enough density in the material to effectively hold the heat once transferred to it.  He said that thick leather surfaces worked better than thin ones (once they got warm).  Same with rubber.

At least for a little while I may not have an effective choice about which goes on here though.  These SAC grips were a gift from my sis.  Normally I'd not expect anyone to ever notice whether a piece was or was not on the bike.  She has asked a few times though if the "handlebar parts" ever got put on.

Don, you just answered your original question of this post.    ;D

Thanks for the heads up on PM grips from Ebay and the thought process on the heat transfer.  I won't have my heat Demons on before MV but will also have to decide if I want different grips than stock.

Thanks, Bob

That pretty much settles it, doesn't it Don?  Personally, I like the "less busy" looks of the ISO's (or some variation thereof), but the Eagle grips are certainly different, and nicely done.  The diameter would eliminate them for me, just as the ISO's were eliminated by me for that reason after wrapping my hand around them.  Stick the SAC's on there...if they work for you, you're happy, and Sis is happy because she gave you something you like.  If they don't work, she'll understand that form must follow function on some items.

MV is why I keep trying to get mine done.  For the last month every time I've thought they'd get on something has kept it from happening.  Would still like to get them on before MV though.  It got a bit cool up there last year a couple of mornings.

Temps up there this weekend promise to be in the 40's at night, so heat in the grips would probably feel pretty good on the morning ride.

TC, Bob, that will probably end up being the truth of it.  Will likely put them on, at least for awhile, just can show her the gift was appreciated and used.  She got them for me after seeing me look at a set in a dealership one day.

Not quite realizing that things are admired which aren't necessarily lusted after she ordered a set online a little later.  I'm relatively certain they're going to feel great.  The look, however, I may have to grow on me.  I think they actually look good as a stand alone piece.  On the bike though.... well....

Don't need no poll. That decision ain't rocket science at all. Git-r-done before niece asks how come you haven't put them on. :nervous:
