That reminded me of my recent 3,484 mile trip. The one that started out with the broken belt in my driveway. In this posting the rider also had a rock puncture through his belt, and he managed to get it covered by his insurance company. So I thought I'd see if my insurance company would cover mine too.
Today I called USAA Insurance, and explained that when I bought a new rear tire in July, the tire shop pointed out that I had a rock poking through the belt. I added that a month later the belt broke at the site of the puncture. I asked if this was something that was covered. After checking with his supervisor, the agent said it was covered under collosion. My bike struck (collided with) a rock, which got kicked up and into the belt, punctured it, and caused the belt to fail. I told the agent I could send him the picture I took of the rock in the belt, along with the repair bill. He said I didn't need to and that they would cut me a check (minus deductible of course) and close the case right there.
I was stunned. Who'da thunk that would happen? Getting some of the money back takes a little of the sting out of the second repair. Which was caused when the incompetent mechanic who changed the belt, over tightened it causing the mainshaft seal to leak and fail.
