  • A Harley isn't just for Christmas, it's for LIFE!

When I do long distance touring, I fit quieter mufflers - 65259-00.  I believe these were standard on domestic FLHTCSE and CSE2?

I use the billet end caps, and I recently sent them back under warranty because the chrome was peeling.  I got them back (from the US) today.  Except I can't fit them..... My ageing memory seems to have made me blunder!

The spring clips that the screws to hold the end caps on with have to fit on something; It's not on the muffler, it's not on the end cap.  So, my worsening memory suggests to me that the mufflers came with a ring that takes the three speednuts, which fits inside the end cap, and the assembly slides into the muffler. The the screws go through the muffler (these are the countersunk type, not the button head), through the endcap, and into the speednut on this "ring" that I vaguely recall.  Am I right? Is there such a ring?  If so.......  I sent them back to the US when I returned the end caps!!!  :nervous:

Could someone with a FLHTCSE or CSE2 parts book check for me, and let me have the part number for the rings?  Sometimes I am SO stupid!

Jim

65332-00 retention ring

8146 clip nut

2225 screw

These are correct for FLHTCSE2 anyway.

Yup, thanks as usual 2L.   :drink:

Looks like 19 is the "retention ring" I was stupid enough to send back. Sometimes I feel so dense!  :wall:

Best see if Zanottis can muster up a couple for me....

Jim, if there's a backorder situation or other long delay for some reason let me know.  I can pull the rings out of the stockers up in the attic and put them in the mail.

You are a gentleman (which I already knew!)  :)

I've emailed John at Zanottis to see what the lead time is - I'll be in Chicago for the weekend in 2 weeks, so I'm hoping I can get them there in time for me to bring them home!  I'll let you know if we need to go to plan B!  :drink: :drink: :drink:
