This is an inside shot of the bag that Harley sells for storing the lowers. As I mentioned, it is real soft.

This is one of the two upper "quick disconnect" screws that hold the lowers to the crash bar. They are covered by the glove box liner and require a large flat blade screw driver to remove. A little more secure than some of the other quick disconnect products. As I mentioned, the tech mentioned that the purpose of this product was not to take the lowers off and on all the time, it was to take them off in the summer and on in the winter.

Really like the look and idea of the storage bag Scott.  That's the first have seen it in the wild.  Thanks for the pics.

The "quick" detach setup as you describe it does not seem all that much quicker than the standard hardware though.  Does it really look to you that it will be that many $$$ quicker or simpler than the relatively simple stock setup was to begin with?

I don't have all the add-ons on a spread sheet either.....I don't think I want to know how much more $$ I have spent (and I really don't want the wifey to know!! :o).

I tell my wife everything so I'd never try and hide how much I've spent on mine. She knows I've spent $750 or so on it since I purchased it.

Now that I have installed the "quick Disconnect" I would say, go with the factory storage bags, but, I am not not sure the Quick disconnect kit is worth the extra money. Plus you have to consider the kit requires allot of work to install. I would vote, no. It cost me $78 (20%off sale) for the kit plus $90 to have it installed. I realize that is due to me being lazy. If you install the kit yourself, it might be worth it. I plan on keeping the bike a long time and see myself taking the lowers on and off many times over the years, that is why I had the kit installed.

Thanks Scott.  The assessment is appreciated.  With what you describe being so it would seem that for a set of lowers that are only rarely off it's really not worth messing with.

I was planning on getting the quick detach kit on mine.  The TX heat makes the fairings come off real quick.  Thanks for the info!

I installed the quick disconnects on my bike last month.  Took about an hour to make the change.  Now that it's done, it shouldn't take more than 10 minutes to remove and probably 15-20 to put them back on.  Like most of you, they'll probably only come off at the beginning of the summer and back on in the late fall.  But it really cooled down the ride this summer with the lowers off.  I did buy the storage bag and it did a great job of protecting the lowers while they were off.  I'm considering adding locks to the lowers storage door, which should eliminate anyone walking off with them.

Not from Harley.  At least not yet.  Here is one of the aftermarket options available.

I ordered and installed the ones from eglides from J&P . I had not heard good things about ordering directly from eglides so I went that route.  They are a bit pricey (compared to the ones below) and they do open towards the tank so you need to be careful not to scratch anything - but they are a world of difference from the stock leather snap cover. They also look sharp.

I also installed the quick release for the lowers and this will make it harder for someone to try and steal them if so inclined.
