SERKs Could Use an Oil Pressure Gauge Too!
« on: October 04, 2007, 01:52:33 PM »

With all the BS going on with these 110's, I think it would be nice to be able to monitor oil pressure, besides temperature. I'll settle for the temp indicator in the dipstick. My ass can feel when the bike's getting warm. But I'd like to be able to monitor the oil pressure. That important information is absent on our bikes. I hate those rocker box mounted OP gauges. I thought it would be really good to have one mounted on the handlebar riser cover. An analog gauge won't fit in there. Does anyone know of some type of electronic digital Oil Pressure Gauge that might work for this application. I can see this thing mounted or even glued to the riser cover, and not needing any space blow the cover, like an analog gauge would need. The entire electronic sending unit can be mounted remotely, only requiring wiring up to the digital gauge.

I don't even know if anything like this exists. Does anyone know if it does? Any info? If not, and there's enough interest in it, maybe we can get someone to make them. Just throwing this out there. But I'd love to be able to monitor my OP on my console or handlebars. I use a windshield bag, so I can't add it to the risers. Any ideas here? What do you guys think? :2vrolijk_21:

heres 1 option

1.5" Micro Gauge

Keep a close eye on your engine's vital signs. These 1.5" diameter Micro Gauges monitor engine oil temperature, oil pressure, charging system condition to give you early warning of conditions that may require attention. The black face is styled to complement Original Equipment black face speedometers, and the 90 degree needle sweep is easy to read at a glance. Each gauge includes the necessary wiring harness and sensors. Application specific mounting brackets and gauge housings sold separately. NOTE: Each gauge sold separately.

 74509-04

1.5" Oil Pressure Gauge

Fits '00-later XL Custom, '99-later Dyna® (except FXDL), '00-later Softail®, and '99-later Road King® (except FLHRS) models equipped with Micro Gauge Mounting Brackets.

That P/N doesn't exist in the '08 P&A catalog, but it's in the '07 catalog. Probably discontinued. Those round gauges mount into some type of gauge housing. They would need depth behind them, so you couldn't mount them in the HB cover. Those are made to mount on the HB risers. You can't use a windshield bag then. That's why I thought a flush digital gauge would work, mounted on the HB cover.

dakota has an adaptor to mount any of there pods directly to your handlebars

http://www.dakotadigital.com/index.cfm/page/ptype=product/product_id=253/category_id=114/home_id=60/mode=prod/prd253.htm

Could be an option, but that's a little tacky. I'd like to get something that looks trick, custom mounted on the HB cover. It's the perfect spot for it, and won't clutter up the HBs.

you moved your directionals right? could you mount a gauge pod to the mirror stem and have it sit below the master cylinder?

A small digital gauge can be screwed or glued to the cover. It wouldn't need to be recessed into it. The mirror stem mounted gauge would look hokey. And where would I mount the bullet speakers from the GPS/Stero anyway? ::) ;D

if you did go the rocker box route, i'd look at you could do both pressure and temp and not try and read the filler cap on the move

Howie now don't freak but the Zippers replacement Speedo module might do oil pressure and temp. It would be a clean solution.

I thought you'd like that! ;D

That's not really happening though.

I just got back from the dealer with my bike. :2vrolijk_21:

Neal, it appears that those Micro gauges you suggested might fit with the WS Bag. I decided to try them. They are not a current P/N anymore. They can order the OP gauge, bracket, and gauge housings. Not a Voltmeter. but another dealer has one. And go figure, no single micro gauge bracket for a RK. Dynas and Softails, yep. RK's, nope! So what to do with the second hole. It was between a Voltmeter and an Oil Temp Gauge. I figured since I have the temp dipstick, and my ass can usually tell it's getting hot, I'd go for the Voltmeter. Kinda useless gauge though, until you have a problem, I guess. And I already have a clock on the lock cover. What do you think the best gauge would be next to the Oil Pressure Gauge?
