Ideas needed for new FLHTSE2
« on: February 27, 2005, 11:11:28 AM »

I just ordered a yellow FLHTSE2 yesterday, I'm a little nervous about liking the color, I've had many Harleys over the years but I don't know if I'll like the yellow! Anyone out there have any thoughts? More importantly, what basic performance upgrades are recommended to these bikes, I was thinking about exhaust, air cleaner and re-map to staret, which ones?? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I just found this site and registered today. What a great site!!!

ido911s, welcome to the site.  You'll find lots of info on exhuast and other upgrades on this site.  I went with the Freedom pipes and Powercommander.  Have yet to ride with this setup, winter is getting old fast.  Hopefully another month and the snow will be gone and the hogs will run wild again.

ido welcome to the site.  To answer your question, I think you're going to really like that yellow.  I think it's one of those colors that kind of grows on you.......it will definatley be the safest motorcycle on the road! [smiley=laugh.gif]

ido911s--Welcome!  OTIS and SHRADER and I were talking about the Yellow, just last night.  We all think it's going to be HOT item!  I've done quite a bit of MODS to my engine, and I'm convinced the RINEHART True-Duals are the best bang for the buck.  Some may disagree, and say the 2-into-1 produces more power.  I, personally, think duals are a must for a Bagger.  Horsepower cost money.  Your 103 is nothing more than an air pump that, right now, is grossly restricted from it's optimum performance.  To get more air in, and more air out, you would need bigger pistons, bigger heads, bigger cams, bigger throttle body, bigger clutch, and bigger deposits in your account!  There.  Now you know.  See why everyone calls me a pr--k?  Seriously, you picked the right Bike. [smiley=thumbsup.gif]  Your Engine has the potential to be a rocket.  But, remember, you're gambling with your reliability when you start making changes. [smiley=oops.gif]  Seek the advice of an expert and make a decision.  In my biased opinion, Don Tilley of Tilley's Harley-Davidson, in Statesville, NC, is the man to see if you're looking for Horsepower!  Later--HUBBARD

you'll love it no matter what color.
I feel as does mostly everyone that the red is the most beautiful color, but you will be very happy. good luck

I agree with HUBBARD in that cubic horsepower cost cubic dollars. We've both been there done that-got the shirt.

The bike will come from HD with something like 72HP and 95FP.

My first question to you is "how much more power do you want?"

The second question is "in what RPM range do you want it?"

Come back

I'm really just looking for a better breathing and sounding scooter. I wasn't planning on any major mods. I'm not a racer just a cruiser who likes enough power for two up riding with a safe level of power.

Welcome ido911s,
You will need to address several things to accomplish this.  Get your mtor breathing with the air filter and exhaust while managing your fuel and spark with either a pPower Commander or RaceTuner.  You may achieve your goal with these simple changes.

Thanks Mike,
I was thinking of starting with SE slip ons and SE air cleaner and a remap.

N that case my suggestion would be to add a less restrictive exhaust- I have Rineharts but there are many others available that will do a comparable job for much less dinero-as well as an air cleaner kit-almost all high quality kits use K&N filters including those from Screamin' Eagle. Finally I would remap the ECM with the appropriate calibration.

If you want to stay true to the brand all of these parts are available at your friendly neighborhood HD dealer.

Ballpark figures:
SE Mufflers  $310-$500
Air cleaner   $140
Remap          $150

Dealer installation >2hours $120

Total  $720-910

With these changes your bike will run much better without breaking the bank.

Regards,
SHRADER

Steve,
That is a good starting point.
From what I have seen and learned, I would recommend kicking in a few extra bucks and getting the Freedom exhaust system.  I feel that in the long run you will have a higher satisfaction rate from having it on your bike.  I think that your motor will breathe even better with it.  Additionally, should you get infected with "gotta have it", you will not have to replace the money you spent on that with the money you spent on this.

Thanks Shrader and Mike,

I think I'll try this basic approach at least until I decide if the results are enough to enjoywithout further expense. I'm stretching the old bank account to get the bike already. I appreciate the advice.

Just picked up my seeg2 last saturday and it's in fro hooker true duals, breather and remap.  Only have around 50 miles on her so I have a way to go before I can really she what she'll do.  At the 1,000 mile service, they will put her on the dyno and make sure she's dialed in.  I'll try to post figures as I get them.

Welcome to the site ido911s!

Skip the SE exhaust and go with chrome clothes pins and baseball cards, sounds great and gets louder the faster you go! [smiley=thumbsup.gif] Got the idea when I went out to my garage to put away my new hogtune speakers. Saw the old schwinn in the corner and was inspired. [smiley=nixweiss.gif]
