SEUC on the way! Exhaust question
« on: October 11, 2007, 09:17:06 AM »

Happy to finally report in – Silver/White SEUC on order for Dec. delivery!  I’m not sure who is more excited – me or my wife!  Currently riding a 05 Road Glide.  I’ve been watching this site for a while now in anticipation of eventually being an owner!  My main concern is the exhaust question.  I’m looking at the Vance & Hines Dresser Duals / Oval Slip On’s / FuelPak.  I’ve had V&H on all my previous bikes, including the Road Glide, and have always been happy with the performance, but have always gone with the HD Stage 1/download.  I see the common thread of heat and hoping this combination will help eliminate that.  Anyone using the V&H FuelPak or have any comments?  Should I hold off and put some miles on it first, or get done at delivery?  Thanks!

Congrats on the new bike order, you will love it!

I run D&D Fatcat 2 into 1 on my Jester and the same exhaust will go on my Duracell. Runs great and it takes a lot of the heat away from your crotch area.

My buddy Bob runs the same system plus the ghost pipe on the left side. Sound is nice and mellow at idle and cruising speeds; however, you know that you have a performance exhaust at acceleration / wide open throttle with a good tune and air filter.  I ran with 7 other bikes on  an Iron Butt ride and my Jester could hang with and pass all of the bikes on the ride, even though several of the other bikes had their 88's, 95's, 96's and 103's worked over (some quite a bit). My vote is to change it after the first 1K service.

Hope this helps!

wenchal,

You may want to start checking availability right away for a tuning device.  With the changes to the ECM for '08, the only device that's compatible as far as I know is the SERT.  By the end of the year I expect to see compatible Power Commanders also, but I have no information on the Fuel Pak.

One thing you may want to talk to the folks at V&H about, assuming you want to stay with the Fuel Pak idea, is how that device works with the H-D closed loop system.  If it only affects the mixture while in open loop mode, it's not going to help reduce operating temperatures in normal riding (closed loop under 4000 rpm or 50% throttle).  The Power Commander gets around this issue by eliminating the oxygen sensors in the exhaust system.  I'm not sure what the V&H system does, if anything, to deal with this issue.

Wenchal,

Congrats on the new scooter.

I have an 08 SEUC in Copper Canyon/Silver.  I have the V&H Big Shot duals and the SE A/C backplate.  My bike runs great >> not lean at all.  According to the $100 HD dipstick, my bike is running around 220 degrees.

The PCIII should be available by the end of the year.  I will have my bike dyno tuned as soon as I can get a PCIII.

I'd stay away from the PCIII, I installed one in my 06 CUSE.  My bike ran fine but it made the bike hard to start, especially when the engine was hot. For example after refueling.   Called the folks at Power Commander they told that was a known problem and they were working on a fix.  Since the PCIII is warrented for a year, I gave them a year to fix it.  Year went buy, no fix, PCIII was returned for full refund.  Now running SERT.
