Unfortunately, those examples are pretty darned accurate.  And younger folks think I'm a whack job when I tell them how much better many things were in the "good 'ol days".

I especially like the one about the so-called ADHD.  As a youngster in grade school, I always finished assignments quickly, became bored, and tended to leave my seat and wander around.  Back in those days the teachers would ask me to sit down, give me additional assignments to keep me occupied, and then just mention my behavior to my parents at the parent / teacher meetings.  By the time I got to 4th grade, I had ceased the wandering around and found other nondisruptive ways to kill time waiting on the rest of the class.  In today's environment, I would have been drugged, placed in special classes, and told I had an illness.  I wasn't ill, I was bored out of my mind.  Try giving the kids challenging assignments and responsibilities first, rather than take the easy way out by drugging everyone.

grc,

I agree, but that's assuming the teacher has any interest in actually teaching.
