Bikes in the shop for Reinhart true duals, race tuner, stage 1 on my 08 SERK......dealer said they'd have to replace the chrome cover with the 110 medalion with a solid chrome cover that matches up to the air filter. I'd like to keep the medalion cover, another dealer told me the holes match up but the original cover doesn't fit perfectly on the filter...but still said it'll work. Anyone have any thoughts on this. I understand the 08's are different than the 07's which didn't have this problem. Thanks in advance. Dean

Mine fit just like OEM with the SE A/C. No problems at all. We just ignored what the catalog said. But then again, we are just ignorant in central Illinois and don't know no better.

I had the Rinehart Dual Exhaust, SE Stage 1 A/C 50MM Kit, & EFI Race Tuner Kit installed and love the sound and performance of the bike even more...

It's a keeper.....

Just do it, if you can swing it financially....

It's at my dealer now...hope to pick it up Friday? Were you able to keep the Original cover with the medallion? How was the fit over the air filter? Can't wait to hear and feel the additional power. This is my 3rd (vstar 650, vstar 1300, 08 SERK)and hopefully last bike, been riding for 19 months...22,000 miles so far. LOVE IT. Dean

Dean...congrats on your first HD!!  The stock air cleaner cover will fit, but you'll need to get a 1/4" spacer/washer to fit between the cover and the filter, and it helps to fashion a gasket to fill the gap around the outside of the filter plate.  I don't have the part number at hand, but HD makes a rubber gasket that works great, and it's only a couple of bucks.

I thought K & N does not have a filter out yet for the 2008 SERK and the SE filter had a tad bit different shape, so that the original cover doesn't fit perfect but the 1/4" rubber washer helps. Dean

i just took my 08 serk to the dealer for rh trueduals and having power commander put on. they told me the bike allready has a highflow air cleaner and didnt need to replace.does any one know if this is true or not.also if i have to replace it i was thinking of goeing with the se forcewinder like is on the springer does anyone know if this wuold work.

If you've got an '08, you don't have a highflow A/C.  If it has the black plastic backplate behind the cover, it is not the high flow.

The forcewinder will fit, but I can't tell you whether it would be more effective in allowing more intake air than the SE backplate and the K&N 0800 filter.

Hi Terry, my local dealer said the K&N 800 will not fit on the08 due to a difference in shape. Is that not true do you know?

ggraham - Your bike (08 serk) does not come with a high flow air cleaner


FNGw/08SERK - The K&N 800 will fit the 08 if you change the backing plate.  The stock filter is a different shape then a K&N.  There are many backing plate choices...I have used the Ness Big Sucker backing plate in the past - there are others... do a search of the site and you will find many options...

Howie...I am mistaken...K&N does not show a part number for the 08...however, I think my search was looking for the stock replacement, and not one for the SE backplate.  Let me do some more looking...

The heads have not changed (where the backing plate attaches) - the throttle body hasn't changed (where the backing plate attaches).

With an alternate (from stock) backing plate, the K&N 800 filter will work...
