08 remote for 07 power locks?
« on: October 24, 2007, 11:09:14 PM »

Has anyone tried to get the parts from an 08 with the remote for the locks to retro fit on to an 07 SEUC?

Thanks,
Rotag

Rotag,

Hard10 and myself were talking about this very subject last week.   I have not had time lately to look into it with my back issues, but  I am very interested in any information about how and if this is possible.    Please let us know if you find any info on it and I will do the same.

Thanks,

I have the part #'s somewhere. I'll find them in the am when I unpack.

Found it!

I looked at the SEUC³ parts supplement catalog page for the security system. The part numbers that are new for 2008 are:
54018-08     Lockset, FLHTCUSE3 $296.89
76524-08     Module, Power Lock Re... $261.63
76525-08     Bracket, Inner Fairi... $22.17
Misc. Screws

The lockset has the fobs and keys. It looks like the module is the part that controls the tour pac. The TP utilizes a cam lock. Some how the module actually turns this cam. At this point I'm not sure where the relay is for the saddle bags. It could be part of either the lockset, module, or in the bag... not sure.

Hope this helps get the ball rolling because I would really like to have this feature.

I just checked ChiHD & they have the lockset listed for $237.51. If I knew how to install this I would buy it & be the Guinea Pig. Chuck are you listening? ???   :nixweiss: ?

AJ, I put the 07 package on my 05.  So it was created from scratch giving a good idea of what's in the 07 package.  If you've got a breakdown for the 08s send it to me and I can likely give you a good idea of what's different.

When these were first released in 08 I thought about it briefly.  Then didn't pursue it.  Just didn't want yet another fob to carry around.

Don, I haven't gotten a schematic on the '08 yet. As soon as I find someone that has one I'll let you know. Has anyone here gotten one yet?

Just to let y'all know, the '08 fob is intergrated with the key. That is, like the Mercedes or Lexus, the key and buttons for lock & unlock are one fob and an additional fob is used for security. This security (alarm) fob could be left in the TP if the ignition is locked (with less security).

Surely (since the 07 has everything except the fob, and whatever the fob signal is received by) you wouldn't need all those parts, AJ?

I would think that the receiver was the only part needed. However, I'm sure there is something else.

Anyone else have a clue?

AJ, even with the original 07 type setup it wouldn't be a big deal to make it remote operated.  There are parts at Radio Shack or other electonics shops to do the task.

When adding the power locks on to the red bike I very nearly did it that way.  Had the extra parts for a total lost of less then $50.  Might have been even less but really don't remember for sure.  Using some different relays and a xmitter and receiver.

Starting from scratch quite frankly could have made it even easier than the "stock" setup by not even having to use the stock relay pack.  Could have done it to be fob operated from the baseline with just slight variations in the harness that had to be built.  But I still just didn't want to screw with carring another fob and I really did want to add the power lock switch to fill the empty hole in the fairing cap.

If you really want to make it remote operated you can though, and for a lot less than all the new Harley parts.

At a minimum you would need a new fob with pushbuttons to control the desired functions as well as a remote relay to operate in parallel with the switch on the fairing...this could be done with aftermarket parts or your could buy all the parts in the H-D catalog and put it together that way.  Using aftermarket parts you would be stuck carrying two fobs around with you.  I did not know that for '08 the H-D system utilizes two fobs, with one for the security system and one for the remote locks.  Are you guys sure about this?  I have to admit that turning on the key everytime you want something out of your tour pak or bags is getting to be a pain in the a__.  For some reason on my bike although I can unlock everything with a key, one of the saddlebags refuses to relock unless I do it with the switch.

There are definitely two fobs with the '08s.  I have enough problems carrying one, I don't need another one to lose.  You should be able to unlock/lock the saddle bags and tour pak with the key regardless of what position the electric lock is in.  You may want to get that saddlebag checked out, because you shouldn't have any problems with using the key to lock or unlock.

I made my 07 remote for about $100. I bought a four channel remote system for aftermarket car power door locks. I had the receiver operate additional relays to feed the stock relays. Works perfect. The other two channels are remotely operating my Legend Air Ride (through relays).
Kinda cool when you can walk away from the bike and lower the suspension with nobody near the bike.
