Amen, Don.

Being Prime, Grade A, Meat in 1969, and actually having a draft card that said 1A for a while, plus coming from steel worker stock...being scared chitless,  I saw the movie in local "hip" venues in the day.  One of many movies that had a profound impact on my thinking at the time.

Cuckoo's Nest was another...

'Lectric Koolaide, anyone?   :huepfenlol2: :huepfenlol2:

Oh, that explains a lot Terry! ::) ;D ;)

Actually, I don't remember the details. It's been sooooo long ago since I've seen it. I don't usually remember much about movies/shows I've seen. Binx is alaways amazed that I tell her I'd like to see something. Then she tells me we already saw it. I tell her that we didn't, but I know she's right. ;D But it's cool seeing something again like it's the first time you saw it. ???

At least this one I clearly remember seeing. I remember that I thought it was a great movie. But the details are still vague. At least I remembered the title and that Alan Bates was the lead. Neal reminded me of the plot line and it brought some more of it back to me. Now that this is in my head, and Binx has never seen it, I gotta see this movie again! :2vrolijk_21:

You need to see it again.  That's for sure.

The scene I was thinking of has the German commander talking to his adjutant as the commander is sitting in local barber's chair.  He is nonchalantly talking about their plans to booby trap and then detonate the town when the British troops arrive.  As they're doing this in what I think was his only scene in the move a young Adolf Hitler pops in and asks all too enthusiastically "do we burn the town now sir?" (or something like that).  He seemed very disappointed when he was told no.

Don't forget Alice's Restaurant, and the film that defines that era, Easy Rider! ;)

Though I think this place can be more like a Firesign Theatre album at times.... :huepfenlol2: :huepfenlol2: ;)  We're all Bozo's on this bus...

The trick, TC, is to keep going Further and just enjoy the ride....  :drink:

Those were some good days. I really did love the mid-60's and early 70's! ;)

The song "The pusher" by Steppenwolf. when I heard that...I liked it, BUT..I remember thinking---IF my dad knew I was listening to this.....I was a rebel of course..

Now-a-days...The rappers songs makes the hair on the back of my neck stand straight out. I've actually broke my kids CD's before it was so bad. I guess what goes around comes around. It's all relelvant.

Too true TC.  I was a kid in Southern California then.  Weird time.  Have vivid memories of the college student babysitter having me with her one day as tear gas was loose on her campus during a "demonstration."  Remember seeing the Mamas and the Papas and the Byrds another time while things got a little boisterous elsewhere on the grounds.

Remember a month or so after Tet started the minister of this Presbyterian church my folks went to bring all the kids up to the front of the church during "kid's time" and telling all the boys it was their duty to burn their draft cards when they got them and that Canada was a "cool place."  I was only five or so during this event but an image I carry in my head to this day is being up in the mountains above LA and watching Watts burn.

God knows where my political instincts come from.  It seems they are not entirely a product of my youth :drink: .

Howie, I wasn't sure but just checked.  I've got the movie on DVD.  Have no idea if the run is still current.  If you can't find it as a cheap rental let me know.  You can borrow it to eat popcorn with Binx with.

Don's relationship with this forum reminds me of Jack Nicholson's relationship with the mental patients in "One Flew Over the Cookoo's Nest" after he came back from one of his shock treatments and they were all grins from ear to ear.  Glad to have you back Don.   Missed but not forgotton in MV..

:nixweiss: That a good one Bob.  Welcome back Don  :2vrolijk_21:
