Ride report after 1 week with new Duracell
« on: October 28, 2007, 10:40:37 PM »

:2vrolijk_21: Have had the bike for 2 weeks now, but was out of town the first week.  Rode the bike to work everyday this week.  Just sold my 2005 Ultra for this one that I rode everyday to work.  That will be my best comparison.  So here goes....

I have #142, bought the bike from Mother Road HD in Kingman, AZ.  Great dealership to deal with.

First of all what a awesome bike...  :jalapeno: absolutely no complaints.   :apple: The bike performed flawlessly in stop and go traffic both morning and night here in Phoenix, AZ the temp in the afternoon this last week ranged between high 80's and low 90's.  Bike was smooth shifting.. engine noise seemed less than the 05 I sold.  Went up and down through all the gears.  There was some heat from the rear cylinder but not really any more that my last bike.  Filled the bike up this morning before going to breakfast, 36.4 MPG, but the dealer filled the tank so I am not counting on that number being reliable.  (do not how far they topped it off versus how I topped it off).  Based on todays ride, I think it will be much better.  Roll on the throttle and the bikes just takes off.  Was riding with a friend yesterday who rides a Dyna and was doing 75 rolled on the throttle and it just left him sitting.  All he could say at the off ramp was wow.  He is now thinking of getting a new bike.

The only issue I have has nothing to do with the bike itself, it is the fact I only have a 29" inseam so stopping on off camber roads is a little tricky.  That will be remedied this weekend ... purchased a lowering kit form TWR.  It allows for complete adjustment from 3/4" to 3" no presets.  I will post next week results.

Here are some pictures...

The bike looks GREAT, I can't wait to get mine.  Can you tell me where I can get more info. on the TWR suspension, because I only have a 30 in. inseem.  I just like to feel more secure on the bike.

Jackyass and Rayz1951....  I found the lowering kit on ebay... here is a link to all of the lowering kits T.W.R. sells...

http://motors.search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZtracy588588

I ordered it last Thursday afternoon and received an email on Friday morning the kit had shipped.  According to UPS Tracking is should be delivered on Friday..  I will be installing it this weekend.. will take pictures before, during and after.  Also will give a full report on how easy/hard it was to install and first impression.  I ordered the kit that was completely adjustable from 3/4" to 3" instead of the kits that are preset at 1 1/4" or 2 1/4".  My luck would be I need 1 1/2" not be able to do it.

Jackyass, Regarding the highway pegs... I purchased the long offset highway peg mounting kit for my last bike and am using it on this bike....  the pegs are universal so they swapped with no problems...

Will keep you guys up to date on the lowering process.

They're awesome bikes, of course I'm a little biased.   ::)

- Update - Ride report after 1 week with new Duracell
« Reply #11 on: November 09, 2007, 02:28:22 PM »

- Update -

Installed the lowering kit.  Used a friends bike lift to get the bike off of the ground.  Total installation time was less than 1/2 hour.   I started the adjustments according to the instructions, tested the height and only needed to adjust the set screw out 2 complete turns (lowered the bike more).  Make sure you bump your air pressure up in your shocks according to the instructions.  I had mine at 10 lbs on the way to work on Monday I rubbed the rear tire on the fender when I hit a bump exiting the highway.  I bumped the air up to 27 - 30 lbs... I have only rubbed the rear tire twice since then and that was going over a very large speed bump (too fast) and once on a pothole (again too fast).  I am extremely happy with the setup.  I think I am going to readjust the set screw to raise the bike up 1 full turn.

Warning - be careful removing your bags...  One of my wiring clips for the remote locks came off the wiring harness....  it was crimpred to tight and while leaning the bag out to unplug it, it came off.

I will give an update next week after I adjust them this weekend.

Close to 2 inches... going to raise it back up just a little....  Rubbing the back tire when hitting larger bumps....
