110 Upgrade Reliability?
« on: November 05, 2007, 10:03:02 AM »

A firend of mine is looking to upgrade a 2008 Ultra to a 110.  I am curious if there are any mechanical difference from the CVO 110 to an upgraded 110 where he could expect more, less or the same reliability from the engine?

I must admit that I went with a 103 upgrade for a 2007 Ultra, based upon the short history of the 110.

There is an active topic regarding differences between the 110 factory and 110 kit engines.

My neighbor had his 07 Road Glide converted and has had none of the problems the factory engines have - including the top end noise - in 11,000 miles.

From a 96 I would go to a 103 or a 113" and bypass all the possible problems with the head leaks.

Don't forget the 107 option. We do plenty of them . The 107 kit is a no case bore upgrade. We have made some very nice numbers with small cams and low compression.  You can look to see in the high teens low 120s for tq and hp in the mid to upper teens. This upgrade is easy on the budget. One thing that has reared it ugly head here of late is. The  crank that is in your current bike and some CVO's if that the wrist pin bushing is spinning. :nixweiss: The rod is tapered on the top and lacks enough area to hold the bushing. We have seen about a half dozen of these examples in the last two months.  Milage has been in the 40-50K range. No other issue where found that would have created that problem.  Unsure why only a few are having this problem.  One crank was a HD replacement crank done in the 20K range on a 45k bike. It was replaced for vibration reason.( info from owner) The fix is to balance and true the crank, install a new set of H- Beam rods.  And while the crank is out convert to a timken bearing.  The budget will always dictate how far you can go on upgrades.  That is always the way it seems to be LOL
