I'm looking through my manual and don't see any precautions concerning removing the battery from my bike for the winter. Is there any issues with the HD Smart Security System I should be aware of prior to battery removal?

Yes, the siren will go off when you disconnect the battery.  There is a small battery in the siren module.  You need to turn the key on and pull the maxi fuse I believe.  Then disconnect the battery.  You could remove the siren module as well.

Just keep the key fob in close proximity to the bike while disconnecting the battery for the pig tail. The alarm will not go off while the battery is disconnected when the key fob is close at hand.

Sorry, but not true...I learned this from experience the hard way.  Felt like an idiot waiting for the siren to stop screaming at me.  The key and ignition must be "on" and then the main fuse pulled..    Having the key fob close by doesn't do chit.  The owners manual describes the procedure...

But then again, you are right, the manual does describe the procedure. Maybe my siren battery has gone the way of my starter, kaput.
