Garage heater suggestions
« on: November 07, 2007, 02:00:12 PM »

Purchased this 30k BTU unit last year for my 3 car and found it very cost effective. Downside - moisture due to the vent free. Added a de-humidifier and things were good. http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_6970_200339173_200339173

CHEAP AND EASY!! OOOPS DID i SAY THAT?

Howie

ps. getting cold and snow here today in upstate NY

Hope this is in the right thread.

I used a non vented LP gas unit last winter and that IS the last winter for that POS. I've since invested in a vented LP gas unit to replace it.  :orange: Now I have to find the time to install it. ::)

Use a vented heater or the moisture will always be a problem. I've got a 150,000 BTU Vented Unit heater in my garage.

Cold here in VA and getting colder. We installed a Modine Hot Dawg gas heater in the garage a few years ago. It uses propane and I'm wondering this year if there may be some cold Harleys this winter with the increases that are predicted. I use the gas for other stuff too (like the foundry) so may have to slow down a bit.

It's not a storing of the bikes, it is the build season.  :bananarock:

Yeah I've got a similar set up.  I have the individual burners though.  Each puts out 15,000 BTUs.  I have two.  I also have a 40,000 BTU umbrella style patio heater.  I use it mainly in the garage with the door up.  I have plug in style CO monitors for safety purposes.  This set up is real nice because I can turn the heaters on an hour before I do any service in the winter and go out with short sleeved shirts on.  The best is to grill during a snow storm in complete comfort under the patio heater with a cigar and a glass of bourbon.  Of course with this set up you need a lot of propane.  I have six tanks.  My wife is always telling me how she's afraid that if anything happens our house will be leveled by a mushroom cloud.

We put in a pellet stove a few years ago and love it. We use our garage as kind of a second living room so having heat is key.
