Any UTV owners out there?
« on: November 07, 2007, 06:17:04 PM »

I have been looking at trading my 07 Yamaha Big Bear ATV in on an 07 or 08 Yamaha Rhino. I'd like the side by side for the kids. The bed would be a bonus around the property as opposed to the tractor and cart (at least that is my sales pitch to Ma). I've looked at several brands of machines and the aftermarket seems to be all over the Rhino. I also like the Polaris Utility version (not the sport version). I was curious if anyone had one and what their likes and dislikes are.

We have a Kawasaki Mule. Great farm/work vehicle. Not much in the sporting department. Has a bed load capacity of about 900 lbs and will go anywhere but goes slow loaded or empty. Friends have the Rhino and its more sporty and quicker but doesn't do well with a load. I don't know much about the Polaris. If it fits your budget the Kubota version is awesome, not  ATV quick but will get down the road and does great with a load too. Can't beat the Mule for yard and farm work. Make sure you do some test drives.

The Kubota version is awesome -- Diesel Motor that will last for ever.

I test drove an 08 Rhino while in Daytona however it was on a small track and we were limited.

This month's UTV magazine has a good write up on the Kubota. After reading the article I think it is a little to commercial for me although it is a nice machine.

There are some good deals on the Mule's currently as the new models are hitting the showroom floors. I'd consider one.

My Dad's Mule (I think) is a diesel. Slow as can be but will tow quite a bit for a small machine.

Hey Mike you may want to pm Mark aKa (Banana man) he is a member on this site and use to work in the ATV world for 10 years.  He is very knowable about them.... or at least he has me fooled.  ;D

He can give you the pros's and con's and what would be a good choice for what you are wanting to do with it.

my brother has the Mule with the diesel motor.  It's a tank and will go through almost anything.  The axle clearance is only about 8 inches and can get hung up in deep mud and ruts.  We use it to bring firewood out of the woods for splitting.  It doesn't chew everything up and holds 1,000 in it's dump bed.  He added a winch for getting out of the mud.  We load it with beer and go on slow rides in the woods all the time.  Slow is good when you have music, a cigar, beer, and enough fuel for a couple days.

Make sure you get the 4 wheel drive version.  The others aren't good for climbing steep hills or getting out of soft ground...
