Changing 07 SE Ultra to Street Glide (whats needed)
« on: November 09, 2007, 06:57:21 AM »

There may be some info already within this forum, but not exactly sure how I would look it up. So I'll just come out and ask for a little help, if it is possible.
While I love my 07 Ultra SE..there are times when I ride solo without the wife, around town, short runs, etc. I'd like the clean look of the street glide, and I have seen some ultras that have been able to "convert" into one.

Would someone that has done this perhaps list exactly what I would need...perhaps approx cost of each item, and maybe what a dealer would charge based on approx time involved (that would be a big guess I know). I know I have an amp under the tour pac that would have to be re-routed, quick disconnect for the tour pac (leather) and even a solo seat, and that great looking luggage rack. I am not a wrench, so trying to do this job on my own would be impossible. But, I do have some friends who could help...and then again the dealership is another possiblity..but I'd like to be armed with enough information that they don't get to me.

Anyway...any help..suggestions...prices...etc would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Dan,

Welcome to the site. I did that to mine before I was a member on this site. As you stated, the amp is the biggest problem. I simply unbolted my amp and dropped it in the saddlebag. I really don't like it, but it's inexpensive. After joing this site, I learned about HawgWired stereo products. You could do a web search on it. They make an amp that goes underneath the fairing. Pretty nice. I know of other members who simply did away with the amp. I made a decision I didn't want the CB, so I did away with the CB antennae. I had another antennae for the radio fitted beneath the fairing. The dealer will try and tell you the docking hardware won't work on the SEUC, but it will. The wires going into the rear speakers will simply pull out of the speaker box and unplug. It ends up with a pretty good size wad of wires under the seat. It probably takes me 15 minutes to change it over. Hope this helps.

Instead of hacking up a perfectly good saddlebag, I've got one that doesn't need any modifications to install an amp in...

I'll let it go for close to nothing.  ;D

Hi Dan, Just getting ready to do my bike this winter. I have done a little investigating and have decided to go with the Hawg Wired amp and speaker upgrade during the conversion.

HD parts purchased at 20% discount;

#55303-07 Detachable Tour Pak Kit
#53803-06 Hardware Kit
#52933-07 Sissy Bar
#51980-08 Backrest Pad  (best mach for my bike)
#53086-01 Backrest Mount

Hawg Wired parts I still need to buy from "Twolanerider" here on this site for a total cost of $1205.00 + shipping;

#PSC-3004 Amp Kit
#CX-504_70 Front Spaekers
#BT-504-50 Rear Speakers

Tour Pak Wall Mount from Eglidegoodies, I didnt have this for my last bike and my tour pak got beat up when it was off and laying around;

#TM-05 Wall Mount  $59.95

I figure this project will take me 10 to 14 hours at my skill level, and would think it could be done my an experienced technician in 5 to 8 hours. Good luck woth your project, when I get going on mine next month I will post some pics and times it took me to do.

I did a Street Glide rear fender/facia/LED light conversion on my '04 EG.  If you send me your email address, I will send you the pages from the HD parts book showing the parts and part numbers.  The cost of parts will be under $175.00.

These are the parts you will need:

FLHX facia (a/k/a "effect panel), part no. 59739 (primed);
FLHX stud plate, part no. 59818-06 (need 2);
FLHX Facia Support, part no. 59790-06;
Flange nuts, part no. 7499 (need 6);
Screws, 3596 (need 2);
FLHX fender tip light assembly, part no. 69375-06

The facia is $56 list.  Instead of the stock tri-bar light that is a run light only, consider the newer version in the accessory catalog that is a run and brake light for $89.95 list.

If your bike is an SG color, instead of the primed facia, you may be able to order this as a painted part; contact your dealer to check.

And....  If you're not inclined to drill three holes in each side of your fender to use the stud plate you can skip those parts and use that very stout 3M dual sided tape that the automotive world uses for bodyside emblems and moldings.  A few of us here have done it that way.  So far without incident.

Wow...so many hits...thanks so much for the quick response. At this point I am filling out a list of things that will need to be done, and then gonna take them to the dealer and see what pricing he may charge to do this. This is something that I am not in  a big hurry to do, as  I can see it will be rather costly..but very usuable and practical.

I do appreciate everyones input and suggestions. Chief..thanks for the offer on the saddlebag. At this point in time I am just gathering info..but I will certainly keep your offer in mind should that be the route I take.

Thanks to all.

When you are ready to do the Street Glide fender/fender/facia, here is a good description using the 3M tape in lieu of holes in the fender w/ bolts:

Now that's what I'm talking about. Your look is exactly what I am looking for. Great looking bike and transformation.

I am now armed with lots of ideas. I'll head over to the dealer in next couple of weeks, pin him down on some cost and maybe Santa will help bring this to a realization.

Again, thanks to all for your input.

Those ugly things have had their utility further extended since then too Gary.  Another couple pieces of scrap board and two more pieces of rod and now they hold a detachable luggage rack too :drink: .
