JR's Nuts Fell Off!!!
« on: November 10, 2007, 08:04:01 PM »

It was a beautiful day in Memphis Town today. Got up at the crack of dawn to take a scoot into Arkansas to see how the colors are looking. Got about 100 miles away, Bald Knob AR, and notice a ticking noise and a popping noise upon deceleration. Made it a couple miles into town and pulled into gas station. Checked front header gasket and it was good. Looked at the rear and bingo...I lost my nuts!!! :'( :o :D :P :huepfenlol2: :huepfenlol2: :huepfenlol2: Lil suckers fell right off! I can remember hearing a ding...ding..noise about 10 miles before Bald Knob. Luckily there was a Napa right across the street (Thank ya Lord). 75 cents and 10 minutes later we be back on the rode and enjoyed a wonderful 450 mile backroad ride thru Arkansas. While I was at Napa I got a couple extra Nuts just in case I loose my Nuts again! Whatta bout you....ever have your Nuts fall off...and loose em???? :nixweiss: :huepfenjump3: :bananarock: :huepfenjump3: :bananarock: ;D  :2vrolijk_21:

Jr should have gave me a call,  I was just south of there My Scoot was on a trailer though :( :( :(  I think it lost more than a few nuts or I think that they had too many parts left over because when I got home I had a bunch of rattles that I had to find.  Just picked it up from the shop and is still has more problems than what it did when it went in for, but at least I got my Grips replaced under warranty   :bananarock: so all was not a total loss....

Some week-end we need to come up with a ride to the north west side of Arkansas and maybe spend the night at Eureka Springs and ride that area I think that would be fun....

Glad you made it home safe,

Hey Bubba! :drink:

I was thinking of you today too! Must have sensed you were near by... :huepfenlol2: Don't you just hate to get your bike back and have to go over it to get it the way it should have been when you picked it up?

This summer I did Eureka Springs but wasn't on the bike. Took a couple from church and we saw the passion play....Awesome! :2vrolijk_21: We spent the whole day at the grounds and did not tour the town. Would love to go back. :bananarock:

Hey I was thinking of you and Tommy today. After I got the nuts on I reached into my saddlebag for some windex wipes and saw an empty container. Last time I used it was in HS and it was full. Wondered if one of my buddys was pulling a fast one on me when I had my back turned???? :huepfenlol2: :huepfenlol2: :huepfenlol2:

I'm glad it was only a temporary castration.  Was it the exhaust manifold that came loose?  I'm not completely clear on it.  I'm glad you found/fixed it quicky.

Interesting story. Those of us who know and love you brother have been expecting to hear about something like this for some time. Only thing is we figured it'd be screws since you've had a bunch of those loose for quite awhile  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I hate when I loose my nuts.

Well, I mean, I'm glad you found your problem with your nuts and were able to get them relaced (edit) replaced as needed.

Yes, at the head you have 2 nuts that hold it on. Front and rear, my rear came loose. Wonder if it's from the heat the rear cylinder gets. On our Caterpillar engines it's not unusual for the exhaust studs to break off or nuts come off behind the fuel system. It is a heat issue, expanding and contracting. I only remember hearing others mention about the rear manifold coming loose. Any ones front nuts come off before??? ;D

JR, if misery loves company I've got a ziploc baggie (baggy, sic?) of spare parts that are always with me that are parts that have decided they didn't want to be part of the bike before.

Exhuast nuts, exhuast bolts/bracket/rubber piece at the rear of the muffler, saddlebag fasteners and washers and a few others.  These things have a mind of their own sometimes.

I usually carry everything except maybe the kitchen sink, just ask Brian (103T). I removed everything about a month ago cleaning and didn't put it back in...I didn't even have a socket and extension. The nice gentlemen at Napa loaned me one.
