When you had yours "fixed", did it take care of the ticking?  It looks like from these pictures that about .080" of a grind out would take care of the issue.

I've not looked under a twin cam valve cover but from the area of the nick, it would appear that the interference is with the valve in its closed (full spring height).

I know it's wishful thinking that in this day and age of machining and engineering capabilities, that a motor of this type would be very quiet without rattles etc.

Thanks for the pictures.

I'll tell my dealer about it when I get the service.

Dan,

Yep - with the valve fully closed.  .080 would do it in most cases.  Make sure after the clearance is cut that there is about .030 clearance between the edge of the retainer and the wall of the rocker box.

I've had the noise on my '07 since new.  It may have quieted down after (they said they did) the boxes were clearanced.  Now it is back louder than before, worst at 2100 with little load or on the way down the rpm range.  The dealer says the factory will not do anything unless it gets worse.  Not very impressive.

To say "unless it gets worse" implies there is something they here that is not as it should be and could get worse.  So in effect they're admitting hearing something but are unwilling or not allowed to do anything about.  At least that's the point I'd be making to someone above the pay grade of the service manager who is turning you down.

All I know is that if the service manager give you the quote with the inner two fingers with both hands raised saying that it's "normal". Heck, man, your good to go!  :2vrolijk_21:   :orange:
