What kind of Milage are you getting
« on: March 14, 2005, 11:23:10 PM »

I'm wondering what kind of milage I should expect to get when I finally get my bike.  I was reading the thread about the amount of gas you guys where being able to get in your tanks.  So I started to wonder how many miles per gallon you guys where averaging. I know all the bikes have different modifications from pipes to power comanders etc. So any replys with your avgs. would be great.  Let's Roll

Only a little bit longer, Only a little bit longer, Only a little bit longer, Only a little bit longer, Only a little bit longer, Only a little bit longer, Only a little bit longer, Only a little bit longer, Only a little bit longer,....and the bike will be here, now I can sleep.

I usually go 150 miles before I look for gas.  I mainly do highway miles and use the cruise a lot.  I have recenntly installed the Freedom pipes so I don't know if this will help or hurt my gas mileage.  I would think stock you should get between 35 and 40 mpg, maybe a little less.

I agree totally with Loose Goose.  I also start looking for gas at 150 mi. ( my gas gauge is pretty much useless....stays on FULL until almost empty then falls very fast).  I don't ususally get much over 40 to 42 mpg, much less if around town.  But, that 150 to 190 miles sure does happen FAST. Mine seems to be in line with those above.  One thing I have noticed is that it is very fussy (so far as fuel mileage is concerned) about excess throttle.

On two lanes or other roads where 65-ish is all you can do the red bike will cruise out and get 40+.  Have seen 42.5 but I'm sure there must have been a tail wind.

On play days or stretches on the interestate where the cruise might be locked closer to 80 than 70 the mileage goes right down the dumper though.  35mpg or even a less on more stenuous play days.

It has done 35 going through a tank of gas on the interstate running close to 80 for the tank full.  So it's fine.  We don't ride 'em for mileage after all, we ride 'em for smiles and miles.

Thanks for the info. as always.  I guess with my 98' Heritage and having no fuel gage I got use to going on milage for fuel stops.  Now with the 03' Heritage even with the gage I still go by milage, I think I've actually looked at my fuel gage only a few times but just out of curiosity, never trusting it.  Thanks again. Yeah, 'er 'uh, Lets Roll,
I know the following information will beg the question from those that are much more informed than me in matters of fuel consumption, "Where is your proof, HUBBARD?" When my '02 FLHTCUI had a 1550 and a 5-speed, 34 MPG.  At present, Ol' Maudie is powered with a 120 cu.in. and a HD 6-speed.  35 MPG all day, every day!  The quicker you get up these mountains, the less fuel you burn!  The more Horsepower, the less the motor will labor.  Of course this is based on my riding habits, which may differ from others.  Later--HUBBARD

Ol Betsy got ~155 miles before the light comes on (4.0 gallons) when new before modification and now gets ~155 miles after modification. While in Florida I got 171 miles on one tank and she took 4.6 gallons. Therefore 37 to 38 MPG if my math is correct.

Just because a motor is hopped up don't mean it will have decreased mileage. It is just getting more energy out of the fuel it is burning by doing it more efficiently.
